Tim Tyler
Kodak will host a cinematography workshop from October 24-28 here at the company's corporate headquarters. This five-day program will immerse participants in virtually all aspects of the art and science of cinematography. "The purpose of this hands-on workshop is to offer participants practical experience in addition to technical instruction," says Bart Durkin, a staff cinematographer for Kodak who will teach the course. "It is intended to help filmmakers who are trying to succeed in a competitive industry." The workshop will focus on the creation of a music video in 35 mm format from pre-production through postproduction. Training will also include a telecine transfer session and color-grading at a modern postproduction facility. The completed music video will be transferred to DVD format and given to each participant. Participants will also have an opportunity to tour the George Eastman House, including a visit to the motion picture archives and Kodak manufacturing site. Space is limited to 12 individuals, including directors of photography, gaffers, camera assistants and operators, videographers, directors and producers. Tuition is $2,250, which includes film, equipment, locations, meals, postproduction, film processing, crew, and talent. Participants will also receive a $1,000 certificate that can be used for the purchase of any Kodak motion picture film and four Kodak courses on CD-ROMs, including Color and Light in Motion Imaging, Nature of Film, What is Cinematography?, and Art of Lighting.
