jeffrey venditti
any opinions as to the grain structure and latitude of these stocks? I would assume the 7212 has a bit finer grain and less latitude, but not sure ... am looking for a bit lower contrast since I am doing a lot of day exteriors in harsh daylight. But, of course I still want fine grain. I dont like the Kodak daylight stocks as I find them too contrasty.
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted September 5, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted September 5, 2005 7212, 7217, and 7218 are all very similar in look, contrast, saturation, the only difference being the level of graininess, and even that is not far apart. 7212 is a good stock for dealing with high-contrast day exteriors, although I think you'd find the 7205 (Vision-2 250D) has the same Vision-2 look and latitude. Premium Member John Pytlak RIP Posted September 8, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted September 8, 2005 7212 and 7217 both have similar very low graininess, but 7212 has a slight edge for sharpness (it's the sharpest color negative film). As David notes, the tone scale and color reproduction are virtually identical.
