Curt McAloney
I've got a slate question. I recently came across a behind the scenes shot from a star trek episode where the slate scene number is X17. What's the "X" stand for? "X-tra?" I've seen "Alt." used for an alternate version of a scene. This scene is not shown in the final episode. Any ideas out there? Thanks!
Boone Hudgins
Setups are usually designated with letters. It could be the 26th shot of that scene.
Colin Kelly
Could be re-shoots of scene 17 or just an additional shot.
Louis
Yeah, when I worked on the 2nd unit of a feature a few weeks ago, we were told by the scripty to use X followed by the scene number to let the editor know that the insert shot was for that scene. We would still use the letters after the number to designate which set-up it was, but X always was at the beginning. For example, the 3rd insert set-up for scene 37 would be slated as X37C.
