Henri Titchen
Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. What is the mystery Arri item in the attached photo? Is it a Matte box support? For what camera? It is black "crinkle" painted aluminium. Thanks From, Henry.
Christian Appelt
It's a support base for UltraScope anamorphic lenses. Any Arriflex IIA/B or IIC can be mounted on the plate like this:
Christian Appelt
The second pic is from an Arri brochure from 1958, it says (in German): "The support base is necessary for ULTRASCOPE anamorphic lenses 50mm and 600mm. Prime lenses from 85mm to 400mm lenses can be used without it, but use of support is still recommended because during tilts and pans, the nodal point will be centered when you use an Arri tripod/pan head." If you ever need a second one, don't hesitate to ask me... :D Do you have an UltraScope anamorphic lens to go with it? Henri Titchen
Thankyou for the replies. It sounds like it is a lens support. I don't think the one I pictured in the original post is for an Arri2b or c as it doesn't have a hole for the handgrip motor. It must be for another camera. I would however like to buy one for an Arri2b or c, please e-mail me with a photo to: radioencryption@hotmail.com Thanks from, Henry.

Henri Titchen
You would use it with the flat base adaptor. -Sam <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is possible that it could be used with a flat base adapter however this might create problems where the lens is too high above the support. The lens support is located below the level of the mounting base. It would be further below when a flat base adapter is added. Henry.
