Matt Serrins
Hi, I'm a film student (undergrad), and I just finished shooting my thesis film. I go to school in Providence, but I'm looking for a good lab in New York or Boston to have my film (Vision2 500T) processed and telecined for a reasonable price, as my budget is already very stretched. I have about 1600ft. Any suggestions. Thanks, Matt Serrins
Premium Member John Pytlak RIP Posted April 29, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted April 29, 2004 Kodak maintains a directory of labs and film-to-video transfer facilities: http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/industry...=0.1.4.11&lc=en You can also consult the Association of Cinema and Video Laboratories directory: http://www.acvl.org/members.htm http://www.acvl.org/acvlinks.htm
Mitch Gross
No labs exist in Boston. The New York labs are Technicolor, DuArt, Magno LabLink, The Lab @ Moving Images, and Colorlab (really in Maryland but with a New York drop off office). If it is easier to get to Boston then you can drop off DuArt shipments at Boston Camera or Technicolor shipments at Film Shack, but you could just mail in the material to any lab directly. Jarin Blaschke
My preference in New York is Moving Images - they have the newest lab and I've had the least amount of dust with their transfers. Their colorists, so far, have been excellent - especially Carlos, if you can get him. Getting the best deal might be difficult with them, however, and I've been forced to go with DuArt or (god forbid) LabLink a couple of times when the producers cheap out. Randy Havens
I second Jarin, I tried Lab of Moving Images, through Mitch's recomendation (thanks Mitch!!) They gave me a great rate (no harm asking), and somehow I ended up with Carlos, and yes he was incredible. I talked to Rom Domenic (I hope thats right), hes the sales guy and he was very nice and honest. I'm shooting a video in July, and will definitely use them again. and yes, all that food and drinks definitely helps. good luck, randy
Premium Member John Pytlak RIP Posted May 3, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted May 3, 2004 I believe the name is Dominic Rom, who moved from DuArt to The Lab at Moving Images.
