We had recently purchased an HVX200P and a Focus Enhancements FS-100 2.0, and had some trouble with the combination initially.
It turned out that there was a problem in the FS-100 and there was not as I suspected, anything wrong with the way I was following the intructions, nevertheless I did manage to screw one thing up. When the FS-100 came back from repair I assumed that the reason it would not let me choose P2 recording when in 1080i DVCPRO HD, was that the device just records in RAW DV at that setting. After I came back from shooting some B-roll on the RAW DV setting, I discovered that I was wrong about not being able to choose P2. When it was broken it did not allow the P2, but now that all had been corrected it did. I just assumed that the former was the case. Now I have about an hour's worth of 1080i 30P that cannot be read by either Final Cut Pro HD 5.0.4 or AVID Express. The image looks great when played through the FS-100 on a monitor, but cannot at the moment be understood by a desktop NLE. I have since shot some fine looking 1080i 30P in P2 format on that FS-100 and downloaded it beautifully into a Final Cut Pro. I just need a scheme to convert the RAW DV to something I can use.
I have so far been able to locate something that might do the trick on the Abel Cinetch website called Firestore DV File Converter Pro software. Nobody at Abel has had any experience with the product and could not even tell me if it works with a Mac. Until I called with a question about how quickly I might be able to get it, the two salesmen I spoke to had no idea it was even on the website. In the likely event that it won't do the job, that is, create a file that I can load into either Final Cut or AVID, is there some other way I can convert the RAW DV? How the heck do they use the stuff shot on a Viper? I'm hoping I won't have to go to a high end post place to do the conversion.
