Has anybody tried this? If so, how well does it work. Is it worth it?

I am shooting a doc in a few weeks, and I want to do some extreme close-ups on certain items. I mean really close, so a lot of detail can be seen. how can I do this? Do I need to buy anything to add on to the camera? Thanks.
