  1. Honestly no problems whatsoever. I should point out I wrote and directed this. The DOP was Christopher Ross (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2131733/) He'd previously shot 'London to Brighton' and had used the Genesis for second unit work on 'Atonement '. The on-set situation is exactly the same as with film only I felt a little more at ease with just letting the camera roll (great for for working with actors) and a faster work-flow in post, of course. Looks to me like a beautifully scanned 35mm neg, though the bulk of that is down to Chris who really is a huge talent. I do enjoy the fact that it's cutting edge technology. It was funded through Film London Digital shorts scheme so shooting on a digi format was mandatory. Most of the other films in the scheme are shot on Digibeta or the equivalent - some with Varicam, etc - and I did think shooting digital was the compromise I had to make for getting the money to make it. But having used this camera I'm now a complete convert. I'll be going the digital route on my next project without a doubt. If only there were more 4k equipped cinemas out there!
  2. For those in London, my short film 'Wish' shot with the Panavision Genesis will be screening Monday October 29 at 9:00 pm as part of the London Film Festival. Details on the links below. Love to hear some feedback! thanks, Matt http://www.bfi.org.uk/whatson/lff/film_pro.../london_calling http://imdb.com/title/tt1034420/

  4. you're right, I did mean the HVX. thanks!
  5. Just finished the online and grade on 'Wish' an 8 minute short film shot using the Panavision Genesis (we believe it's a world first for a short). It stars Imogen Poots currently appearing in '28 Weeks Later' and was shot by Christopher Ross (London to Brighton). A huge thanks to Panavision London for the gear! We're about to embark on a festival campaign so if you see it on near you please check it out and let me know your thoughts. Here's a (very) low res screen grab. Cheers, Matt
  6. Hi, Posted this in the editing forum, thought I might find some info here too. I'm contmeplating shooting a short film in HDV using a DVX100a then editing on my 1.67Ghz Powerbook G4 (with 1GB RAM) using FCP 5.0. Is my hardware/software up to it? Any advice, things to keep in mind? Thanks, Matt

  8. Anyone ever taken one of these apart (the super NOT the special)? Can you tell me how??
  9. anyone know which ones have manaul ASA setting? Be great not to deal with notches... matt
  10. Can someone explain what these two options are, and their differences, in regards to exporting a quicktime movie from Final Cut Pro? thanks! Matt :)
  11. My camera only 'reads' film up to 160 ASA. If I want to use vision 200t should I just adjust the exposure manually using an external meter? that should work, right?? matt
  12. How about Lars Von Trier's 'Europa'? Not all fixed shots - a fair few dolly's - but barely a pan in sight and some brilliant work with fixed shots on a train utilising rear projection. matt

    yep, that's a canon 814 autozoom...nice. ;)
  14. Beware the sound Nizos! Make sure you get one from a relaible supplier and that they've been serviced. The internal rubber belt that drives them can detiriate as most are at least 20- 25 years old and there would still be camera noise issues even with a barney on. Have a look at the Nizo 481, 561, 801 and the best of the lot the Professional (all silent).
  15. I think I've finally got it now. :)
