  1. Okay. Great explanation. I sort of figured there is a distinction between ambient subject light, and the light within the lens. I've heard the suggestion that one might use an ND filter to reduce ambient light, and open the aperture to reduce DOF. This seems in concurrence with your statements (and Georges, too). Now I understand this aspect of DOF. Thank you.
  2. Isn't the aperture smaller for a bigger "f" number? Thanks again.
  3. Rookie comment here. It is my understanding that reducing aperture will increase DOF by reducing light that creates observed circles of confusion. However, I've read that reducing light will decrease DOF. George Lucas commented on the latter in "The Making of American Graffiti". I'm a little "confused" myself. Please help. Thanks.
  4. Okay, great input here. Will the Beaulieus accept primes? Thanks again, folks!
  5. Hello again, I've also been looking at various Beaulieau's, like the 4008 and 6008 as well. What is the issue with the Bauer 709 lens? Thanks.
  6. Yet another rookie question... I've been looking at many different cameras, and my head is spinning. Any thoughts on Bauer cameras (model S709XL for example)? Thanks.
  7. Another rookie question here- Are there any issues in using a non-sound cartridge in an S8 sound camera? Thanks.
  8. Okay. I'm trying to understand the visual or asthetic differences (Maybe this isn't easily quantified). Basically, I'm trying to decide whether to go Super 8 or 16mm, or both?? There's a lot of really cool S8 hardware out there. I've been producing television documentaries, and would like to work film into my future projects. Thanks again.
  9. Hello, I realize this may be somewhat subjective, but can you folks explain the resolution differences between Super 8 and 16mm running at their respective standard frame rates? Thanks.
  10. Hello, Understood. Coming from the television world, I'm used to having everything manual. I realize that working with film offers its own challenges. I must think differently. I've been reading, and reading and reading. There's a lot to learn. By the way, I was only able to view your 2mb clip. It was interesting to note the luminance response where the sun was shining on your birds feathers. Thanks for your insight.
  11. Where can I view some super 8 footage on-line? Thanks.
  12. Hello, I'm looking to get into S8. Never done film, and come from a television production background. I am willing to spend for bells and whistles (lens interchangability, variable shutter, intervelometer etc. Do I need to be concerned about film emultion speed selectability on an S8 camera? The Beaulieu cameras appear to be the way to get these features. Thanks.
