  1. thanks Bob for your experience on the panel as a workable fixture, I was also fishing for some input on the fixture being used with on board batteries other than the ones sold by the company. Lite panels also sells a battery plate for use with V-lock batteries. However IDX states that the fixture is producing a high amp draw ( according to the specs ) on the battery and that will void your battery warranty. Operating range is 18 to 24 volts for the panel. so while the fixture will strike and run for about an hour, it is doing damage to the battery pack.

  2. equipment is usually "dinged up" by the users in the field. not while stored in a facility. While doing a proper check out of equipment your suppose to be able to pickout the best unit on hand at that time. If the house owns 15 units and 10 are out you probably got the pickens left over by the renters ahead of you.. May I ask what the rental rate was for the units?

  3. the pixel buffer can only handle a few dead pixels. I think your total amount of pixels is a lot higher and you are only seeing the overflow. gotta send it back to SONY. however they will not be able to turn off all of them.I don't think?? have had to do this to my 900/r3

  4. What I don't like is buying a high definition camera and as soon as I buy it it is already obsolete and people sneer at me and refuse to hire me. This happened to me when i bought the JVC JY-HD10 720p HD camera and as soon as I bought it everyone told me that only 1080i is real high definition so everyone bought the 1080i camera and now people are saying that only 1080p is real high definition and pretty soon they will say that it has to be 1080p at 60 frames per second is real high definition and it will never end. What Red Digital Cinema promises is that his camera will be obsolete proof and it can always be upgraded to meet peoples expectations.

The only thing obsolete proof is the tripod the video camera is setting on.

  5. My "reality based" wishes are for a 20x Manual and the 6x Wide. I'd like a manual 6x. But that wouldn't be reality based.

I wish P+S would finish their Mini35 update so it can be successfully used with the H1 before this Fall as I have a feature to shoot and would love a definitive 35 converter I can mount Zeiss and Cooke glass to.

So whats the deal with an update on the Mini35?? does it not currently work with the H1??

  6. I believe that camera does not have any XLR mic inputs. you should invest in a beachteck audio adapter with two input channels and 48volt power. then the world of mics will open up for you. a good shotgun mic is really what youwhould start with, higher the price the better the sould. senn 416 or better. that mic will still be sounding good long after that camera is donated to goodwill. try different angles with any mic you get, and be aware of what is in the line of sight directly behind the subject. good luck

  7. IDX also has a stackable battery So when the light comes on you can piggyback a fresh one on the drained one, until your at a safe spot to shut down camera. Bad thing about V-lock batts is that you lose that cool AB bolt on plate that screws on the side for mounting wireless receivers etc.

  8. The only lens I got a look at was a not yet in production prototype. it was even clean of any model number. standard eng style lens. There will probably be a wide adapter made, but no mention of any other glass out there that I know of. all of these 1/2 lenses are powered by pins located in the mount. the body also has a power port on the side for standard B4 2/3 lens, and you can use an adapter for 2/3 lens.

  9. take time to check out the lenses on a good monitor. pan side to side on a subject and check for light drop off at the edges. not all glass reacts the same.

  10. You will be able to workflow this thing faster in HD. after hearing what 501 post group did for SIN CITY. the fast turnarounds probably will save you from the possibility of having to do reshoots. by the beginning of the 3rd day you will know whats working if your post team has something to show you from day one. and that can happen with HD.

  11. the HDXDCAM that will be seen this year is 1//2 chip set. 2/3 will not be seen until 07. Only two lenses on the offering block so far.canon may be incorporating the steadishot functon from XL H1 lens into the unit. Main reason for the push is that CBS wanted a camera now. BIG ORDER, so we got the cheaper 1/2 chip camera. same 24P ish ness that f900 has, they say. but heavier compression. reasonably price media. 1,000 rewrites.

  12. I have seen these PL mods performed on older Eclair bodies. (by visual products ) I think the label says just above the mount. It seems th stick out from the body quite a bit. They also adapt the older lens by attaching a PL ring to the back of the lens and keeping it in place with a snap ring. However it seems that any other PL prime that I've ever put on one of these Moded bodies is very soft and cannot be focused correctly. Are they just using the PL mount to give the camera a better, safe, or more modern look. or is it really suppose to allow the use of newer faster cleaner lenses??

You have to mount the adapter on the lens then have it checked on a lens projector to determine correct backfocus. Then "shims" are added to bring the adapter and lens into spec. Once the lens and mount are within the manufactures spec the lens and adapter are locked together.

If you insert the PL mount adaptor into a PL mount camera and just mount and de-mount lenses your backfocus will be all over the place.

As the film and Xfers have gotten better the precisison of the entire optical/xfer process has gotten more critical.

Perfectly good optics are declared soft simply because they are not set up properly. The camera rental house do this as a matter of prep. The owner/op who does not expend the $$ for this service will not get best results

Especially bad for wide angle lenses shot wide open.

The whole optimum backfocus goes for non PL mount lens also. The typical Arri/Aaton mount lense also has to be set up.

HD has made this even more critical. The difference between a crisp xfer to HD and mush can be poor backfocus. It is obvious on HD

  13. We were using a pro35 adapter with older CZ prime set. Noticed a sizable dropoff of light when panning full frame from left to right. Meaning the subject was properly exposed when in center of frame, however when panning to either side ( last 20% of frame) the light would drop by 1.5 to 2 stops. We thought it might be the camera, changed to DSR-450, same thing. Each lens in the set did the same thing. If i understand how the pro35 works , it has two ground glass pieces osilating in different directions. Could those pieces be out of whack with each other? Has anybody else seen this problem??
