  1. Asbestos or birdshit is more dangerous than Dust-off or gaffer tapes...So what ??? I'm not takin' bath with birdshit. A-Bomb is more dangerous......or the Bush administration......SO WHAT !!! I was just asking about the products that we used intensly on a set....I'm still an AC so I'm concern with this issues, are you DP's concern about your camera crew? I'm sure you do.
  2. I've made my investigation and check this out: http://www.astm.org/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/J...1.htm?E+mystore Dust-off contains difluoroethane. It's even writes on the can " Inhaling contents may be FATAL" Keep jocking guys...
  3. I agree, there are many things much more dangerous than gaffer tapes and Dust-off?of course. I don?t want prohibition, I just want information, I want to know what are the risks?we often know nothing about those products, but I agree, we can?t do our job without most of them. Hey Hal, I don?t need ?commercial?envirnmentalists? to be scared, I just read regular newspapers? everybody knows that it?s dangerous to walk on the highway but nobody exactly know excatly how bad for our health chemicals can be? Do you really believe what you say when you told us about the industry taking care of our health? (I?m gonna die laughing here, don?t need chemicals? ) Industry care about money first?I?m sure it?s possible to make safe products but what are the cost...??? BTW Cell phones and microwaves ARE dangerous for health; for sure?don?t trust what the industry told you? trust me, leave your cell phone away from your testicules ;) !!!
  4. Hi, Has anybody heard about a real investigation about the effects of a long term exposition to chemicals use in the movie industry? The camera assistants are always in direct contact with many chemicals such as gaffer tapes (emanations from the glue and direct skin contact), cleaning spray, acetone, emanations from film stock and dust-off especially in non ventilated dark rooms. Even HF transmissions from video transmitters, focus?remotes, magnetic fields of large video screens can be dangerous?like cell phones. I know AC friends who are really allergic to gaffer tapes and Dust-off? What are your experiences? Is there any publications about this issue?
  5. A 35mm lens with a focal lengh of 12.5mm will still be a 12.5mm on a 16mm or a super 8 camera...keep that in mind...many people do the mistake...even DoP!
  6. Anybody knows the differences between Arri 35III 2nd and 3rd generation? Speed range, shutter angle options??? Thanks!
  7. Does anyone have tried an AZ Spectrum video assist for NPR or another camera? B&W or color version... My Angenieux viewfinder is really clear but, what amount of light goes to the video assist and what's left for the viewfinder??? Thanks!
  8. The only things that is better on the NPR is the magnification when you use the beautiful Angenieux viewfinder and the adjustable shutter from 180° to 15°. PL mount is possible on the NPR with modification...
  9. I've open my motor (AT54 n°603) and it's beautiful !!! there's no paint all over the components and it's really clean. It's a 1979 motor so I guess it's one of the latest version. There's a "Parvex" motor inside ("Axem" type) and I've checked and it seams that's still available, in France at least. The motor is 26v 5A and 90W running at 4800t/min (or 80fps) My questions are: why do we feed this motor with 12V ? Why does my motor goes only at 32 fps max instead of 48 or 50? or even 80fps, can it really be dangerous for the camera or is it just a matter of image steadiness? There's 5 wires going to the Hirose 4pins connectors, does it means that it's possible to connect a milliframe controller to it and then go over 32fps ? Thanks! Thibaut
  10. You are right Olex but we still can check many things by ourselves, cleaning is easing and we easily have access to some of the greasing points... Checking flange focal, back focal and ground glass is easy. in France doing those tests is one of the job of the assistants camera...modifications are done by camera techs in rental houses but when you own a Camera with lenses, you do those tests once and almost for all...if you treat well your camera gear ! 11. Hi guys, Sorry for the delay, I Have resized the first document and it's a 5.33 Mo file now instead of the original 210 Mo!!! At the end the quality is not so good but if you have some problems with any page of this doc I can recompress it a bit less and resend it to you. Anyway if you want this greasing and maintenance manual, send me a private message with a personal email address with enough space... I'll try to send it to Tim Tyler so he can put it in the docs and manual section of this forum but I'm afraid he reject it cause the quality of the originals is poor and it's in French... The other doc is a list of all the npr spare parts with corresponding diagrams and it's in French, English and German... :) Have fun!
  12. Hi, actually it's more than just oiling diagrams...my documents are huge ! You gonna love it !!! ;) It's dealing with all the settings and controls that must be done on this camera and in addition there's an oiling board that goes with a spare parts list with parts codenames and diagrams. I don't really know how to put this files online...I've no website yet and it's too big to put it in here...any suggestion? Anyway I can send private emails to each one of you, just ask ! I've made about 50 scans in good quality, each page is around 10 or 15 Mo... I'll be ready on thuesday... Thibaut
  13. In S-16mm I can put a clip on with 2 filter on the Kinoptik without vignetting. I'll make some test in both S8 and S16mm but I wanted to know if anybody had use this lens on set conditions and what's is opinion on the lens compare to modern lenses...
  14. Thanks Andrew to remind us the basic stuffs that everybody should do to keep his dear Camera ready to go...I'll try to post my docs by Sunday or next week... Did anybody can help me with my Aaton motor: I want to know if there's a fuse somewhere, how to switch from 24 to 25...and if I can plug a Tobin Milliframe controller or a AC flexiLight on the Hirose 4-pin... Thanks
  15. There are many NPR available...It was widely used all around the world for TV news in the 60-70's, just try on eBay...you can have one NPR 16mm for 2000 dollars max and then convert it to S-16mm Pl mount. There are many different motors available for this camera and some of them are big and heavy and handheld shots are tricky...Aaton & Haflexx are really lighweiht and well designed I think...Angenieux viewfinders will upright image contrary to Kinoptik viewfinders and has a better magnification. Npr has a incredible adjustable shutter from 180° to 15° !!! Most of Aaton Xtr prod goes to 45° max...
  16. I've recently found the oiling diagrams for NPR but it's in french...I've scanned it and I will soon be able to send this precious manual to those who need it...
  17. El Mariachi was shot with the Angenieux 5.9mm (IMDB source) and there's no internal filters...only with the Kinoptik! Sure optar or even Arri/Zeiss Ultra 16 extra wide 6mm is sharper for sure but for a few thousand euros/bucks, what do we got...
  18. Did anybody tried the super wide angle lens Kinoptik 5.7mm? Can it matched with Zeiss T1.3 primes? I know Kubrick used his "big brother", the 9.8mm that covers 35mm, on Shining...but whatelse about those lenses? Thanks
  19. I've just bought an Aaton motor for my NPR and I'm wondering if anybody succeeded to wire a Tobin Milliframe Controller to the Aaton Alcan motor with it's Hirose 4-pin connector??? Can I plug a on/off remote directly on the Hirose 4-pin or other accessories? Pin 4 is (+) and pins 1,2and 3 are (-)...? Is there a fuse in this motor and where is it? How to swith from 25 to 24fps? Thanks
  20. Hi, I've look for an Haflexx motor a month ago and I've asked Visual products if the TMC works with the Haflexx fisher 11-pin connector and here's Rick's response : "i have checked the haflexx motor with a tobin milliframe controller, and it works very well. the motor by itself was still holding crystal at 70fps. the actual top speed attainable would have to be determined by a steadiness test of your camera (i doubt you would get much more than 50fps out of an npr before the image became too unstable)." Now I have a very nice lightweight Aaton Alcan54 motor and I have the same question : Can it work with the TMC considering that it has a Hirose 4-pin connector??? What would be the speed range then ?
  21. I wanna shoot a S-16mm short with Plus-X reversal stock 7265 and I'm wondering if there's 400ft rolls available in the US cause we only have 100ft here in France... By the way, anybody tried to shoot S-16 B&W with print, intermediate or even sound film ? The sensitivity of the film won't be an issue since I will shoot outside in the sun ( I hope) with Zeiss primes... B) Does the camera should be modified if I shoot with those kind of films ? Thanks !
  22. Hi, Eclair Cameflex is a very noisy camera but you can do so much with it that you just can't do with the Arri or the Konvas !!! - 360° rotating Viewfinder - Shutter angle from 200° to 15° or 180° to 5°!!! - Depending on the type of cameflex you can shoot 4-perfs (35mm academy, Super 35mm or Scope), 2-perfs (techniscope), 16mm or S16mm with modification or even 3-perfs Super 35 with modification (very very rare)?.did I forget something here!?! -Instant changing magazines: 120m, 60m or 30m which is very very small !!! Video tap is easier with the Arri but possible and like the Arri there are many motors available including quartz motor (TCS TXM-21C) or single frame or even handcranck and can be modified to PL mount or Nikon?
  23. Merci Alain ! would you sell one of your 24-25fps Aaton motor by any chance ??? I would keep my BEALA for other speed... I'm often checking eBay for NPR motors or package. A bientôt
  24. Hi, I?m looking for a small, light and quiet motor for my Éclair NPR my final choice would be for the Aaton ?Alcan 54? , the Haflexx (2nd generation) or the Tobin TXM-14. Has anyone shot with one of these motors ? Thanks
