I am prepping a low-budget independent feature right now, and we'll be shooting HD 720P. We have a great deal on a package, but it only comes with the standard ENG zoom lens. To upgrade to a Cine lens is going to really be a killer budget-wise. So...
I'd love to get objective opinions on whether or not the cost will be truly worthwhile in the end. We will be taking this thing to film, eventually. The camera we're using will either be the Panasonic Varicam or the Sony Cine Alta. The ENG lens for either is the Canon HJ11X4.7B. Are the differences between going up to Cine going to be monumental?... or will it be a subtle benefit that is more a luxury than a necessity.
I know this is a difficult question due to aesthetics. I realize it all depends on the "look" we are going for. I just was hoping to get some opinions from people who don't have a vested interest in selling me on Cine lenses from a monetary standpoint.
