  1. We have a 5min short film we are producing, somewhat on a time crunch, (as always) and I need to find some locations. I need a quiet street, with old houses, close together. Also, the interior of a house, with steps, and an attic. We were thinking about building the attic in our sound stage, but obviously finding one already built would be easier. =) Do any of you have advice on finding the locations, asking permission to use the house, and / or building a set to look like an attic. (like.. should I hire a set builder, or a savvy carpenter.) Normally we choose a house where someone we know lives, but we actually have a budget, and would rather get the look that I want, instead of using uncle bills house down the street. Thanks! 2. Thanks Daivd and Laurent, That does make sence... having two of everything. Our director is hardly that. He just happens to be the one that knows the most about the thing we are shooting, and that's not much. We are in a studio, going straight to tape (D-beta) but we still can have a hit in the tape I guess. And the takes are a talking head on a greenscreen. Really nothing special at all. I think what bugs me the most, is the assumtion that the word "safety" helps boot the production value. But thanks for the help with how you guys shoot. It's appreciated =) Bryan
  3. Hey guys, I'm part of a small time production company. During a production, usually a talking head, but not always, we will finish a shot, take.. whatever. Our director says, "yeah! that's it!" then says, "let's do a safety" Only problem is, we do a safety on every take. Every single take. I'm curious on a few things: Where does the term "safety" come from as far as shooting. Does anyone use it in their shooting, or some form of it. Is it worth doubling the time it takes to do a shoot, just to get safetys? Just wondering about the rest of the world, and what they/you do. Bryan
  4. *laughs* (but not at you Josh...I was just thinking how much each of us don't know, but yet are supposed to know. I will be ignorant till I die I guess.) anyway...I would not have guessed that high either, and i'm part of "them"... or is it us... whatever. I didn't know it was 33% of the world. so, i'm off to drink some caffene. later everyone. bf
  5. I was curious too. According to this page the top three go like this: Christianity - 2.1 Billion Islam - 1.3 Billion Secular (etc) - 1.1 at at the bottom of the list: Scientology, at 500,000. *shrugs* For the record, haven't seen the movie, liked the book, waiting for DVD.
  6. Hi Iron If Dbeta is not the final medium, you could edit on DV, then produce an EDL for the final meduim (film, D2, etc) If you do need to edit on Dbeta, you will need a raid, with enough bandwidth for the video to not drop frames. The internal drive on you computer won't handle uncompressed. I'm unfamilliar with how AVID does it now (i switched form AVID to FCP a few years ago) but I'm sure is similar to how I do things on FCP, just more money. Along with the RAID, you'll need some high bandwidth connection between the RAID and your cpu. Ethernet won't cut it. It's not really designed for video, even gigabit ethernet. It may work a bit, but not worth the hassle it causes. We use Fibrechannel between the G5 and RAID. 2gigabit bandwith. We have a G5, running FCP, an Apple xRaid with 2TB of storage, and a BlackMagic/Decklink card for input through SDI (video and audio on SDI) You wouldn't need all of that space I don't think, but the setup would work well for you. Let me know if i didn't answer your question. Bryan
