Hello. I have some questions relating to shooting a doco with the HVX. Here in Australia it records 1080 25p - not 24 p which I believe is a NTSC/PAL differential(its called HVX202). I was hoping to have a master at 24p which would give me a good base to go to either 25 fames or 30 frames in the future( for different outputs, TV, NTSC countries etc) Also if we have to do a film run out for a festival showing then it will already be at 24 and we will have 16mm footage to bring in as well. So if my master is now at 25 frame base, what am I losing if I do a down convert to 24 frames? Wolf Creek in Australia was apparently shot at 25p on the F900 and converted in this way to 24 and I have read snippets about indie/doco filmakers using this process tho I cant say I understand whats involved nor can I find much infomation on how its done. I know why it was done because previously you couldnt achieve 24p capturing on prosumer models until the HVX came out which doesnt help me as prev stated. Will this process be detrimental to certain types of film footage, what will the implications be for audio in this conversion. I will be cutting on a G5 system using FCP. Does any one know if you can go to 24 from 25 in FCP using a pull down? I dont have the current FCP 5.04 version yet. In terms of getting a capture card is the standard apple cards ok for HD or should I get an external card. Someone mentioned the Kona Another issue I have is with the amount of footage I am to be handling in this Doco which will end up being around a 50 min length. At 1080 25p that is around 100Mbps. Will my G5 start gasping? I was wondering if I shouldnt transcode the media to a lower sd res and in effect do a true offline. Im not sure how that would work with the P2 media? does anyone have any ideas or tried it? Or will a dual processor G5 handle it ok? Sorry - so many questions!! My head hurts.
