    CMOS vs CCD

Hi again, What would you say is the main advantage, in terms of performance, of CMOS over CCD? Power consumption? Frame rate range? Light sensitivity? or? And would you have any numbers to quantify the difference? Thanks again! Zalfa Chamoun
  2. Hi there, I'm looking for an estimate of how much the Cypressa 'Oscar' CMOS would cost Arri? Anyone have an idea? Cheers, Zalfa
  3. In an ideal world I?d have all the time and money for tests. That would be in an ideal world, unfortunately ambitious student projects aren't always ideal! As a compromise, I?m hoping I can turn to some of u with more experience than me. So you?ll find below a short description of the scenes that I would like to b able to test extensively but can?t. Any help, comments, suggestions would b truly appreciated. FIRE SCENE: It?s an ext/night scene. It?s the part of the short film that?s to b different from the rest as we follow Ghosts that represent smoke invading the homes of a village. The entire scene is to b shot outdoors using only a crane and steadicam. The establishing shot must show the whole village (all in all 6 houses). So I?ve decided to llight those 6 houses from the interior, but can?t figure out what kind of light to use for moonlight nor how to simulate fire. Could anyone b of any help? Also would u advise shooting Day for Night, and if yes would anyone have any pics to support this. TV SCENE: INT/NIGHT. I do want a flicker and quite a bit of blue, it?s an absurd scene as well as the turning point of the story. The TV needs to b present, obviously present. So I know what I want, but not sure how to best achieve it. Again, if anyone has any useful ideas, they would be appreciated. HOW TO CHOSE HMIs: INT/MORNING. I?d like the windows to b burnt out. I have in mind to use a 6K ArriSun with Chimera Speedring a each window. Does anyone have any different suggestions? I've attached a still from Eternal Sunshine to illustrate what I have in mind. COLOR ENHANCER FILTER: I'm looking to make the reds pop in 2 of the scenes. Would anyone have any stills taken using this specific filter? CHEERS! Zalfa Chamoun.
  4. Hey there, I'm considering bleach bypass for a short I'll be shooting next month on S16 and have some questions. It's a look I've been wanting to try for a while and have finally found a script that calls for it. However I know that it's quite a complicated procedure as well as an expensive one. At this stage I'm looking for input from ppl that have tried it and that would like to share their experience. I'd like to know: -what the different kinds of bleach bypass are and how they differ -what requirements it has; such as exposure, stock, asa... -how expensive it actually is -what tests need to be done prior to the shoot -and whether the look can be achieved in telecine I would really appreciate any help I get as well as some stills of examples! Cheers, Zalfa.

    Canon XHA1

What can u tell me ab t this camera. Just abt to shoot a documentary, and the only available camera is the Canon XHA1. What can u tell me abt it? Anything specific to look out for? Cheers, Zalfa.
  6. I'm getting ready to light a short film that takes place entirely in a car. The lights that r available to me are the whole kino range available for lighting in a car, a 2k and a set of 800W. I've already used such a kit and although the result wasn't displeasing, I found it lacked texture. Which at the time fitted the context. This time round I'm going for a more gritty look, less smooth, clean and clinical. Any suggestions? Are there any filters I could use? Any films that could serve as a reference? I would appreciate advice from ppl that don't overlight cars and still maintain a satisfying/natural amount of daylight in the scene. Thx.
  7. I'm shooting a film in Iowa next month and looking to capture the look of a sleepy midwest town. I quite like the way "What's eating Gilbert Grape?" looks. The off-centre close-ups, extreme long shots and the slightly discolored sunsets. Any suggestions? How does one get the best of this look? What stock would you suggest? What would you do in post? Pls help, thx, Zalfa.
  8. Hey again, I thought if I'd make my topic more specific I'd get more moderate reactions. But thx to all that replied to my first post. Can a woman be a DP and a good mum at the same time? Likewise can a guy be a hands on father as well as a cinematographer? Are women only ever to DP documentaries and independent films? What do you think abt festivals for women filmmakers? Why no women DPs in Hollywood? Let me know what you think. Cheers, Zalfa.
