  1. I'd avoid them. If a follow focus isn't rock solid like an arri, it's more of a liability than a tool.

    i used a cavision follow focus once which i thought wasn't too bad, until i used an arri one and realised just how much better the quality of the build etc was, definitely worth spending the extra money on the arri.

    If you're looking for a mattebox i noticed this one on ebay 160392188850 (although i have no link to the seller or anything, just noticed it on one of my many afternoons browsing) seems like an OK price.

    I also know that the person i bought my sr2 off is selling a single sided Arri follow focus http://www.filmcamerakit.com/html/arriflex...accessories.htm some of his stuff seems a little pricey, but i've been real happy with the camera i had off him (he had the FF listed on ebay some time back for about £575) Again i have no link to this seller other than i purchased a camera off him and would recomend him as trustworthy. Whether or not it's what you're looking for is another matter.

    Hope that was some help, if im not allowed to link to products not being sold by me then sorry moderators please let me know for future.

    One last thing, the one thing i have purchased from one of the many indian companies selling film stuff on ebay was a 15mm rails support thing, using it on my beauleiu 4008 and its great for the price. woudl probably avoid anything else (follow focuses etc)

    thanks

  2. mmmm, please change your name as per the rules of this forum, thanks (i've always wanted to say that).

    I haven't seen the film, but pretty sure i read somewhere that Pro 8mm scanned some super 8 film that was used in a section of it.

  3. wow, wish this was a few months ago before i got my SR2, good luck whoever gets this bargain camera.

    Tim, im very envious of the amazing condition your gear is all in, especially your cooke kinetal primes you are selling, are you just lucky in sourcing gear or do you do a lot of work restoring it??

  4. We are talking about this??

    http://www.pstechnik.de/en/digitalfilm-16sr-magazine.php

    says 2010 for release date.

    I like the idea, not biased because i bought a S16 sr2 not long ago....

    I'm glad that it will be compatible with all the SR models. The website says the sensor size is "close to N16" does this mean bigger or smaller???

    i imagine if it was just the regular 16 area alot of SR1s and 2 that are R16 will suddenly be a bit more saught after, and maybe rental companies will be more interested in investing in a mag or two.

    i suppose at the end of the day everything will depend on the price of the digital mag and the quality of the picture it attains.

    There was also another thread somewhere about a digital mag for the XTR, it was mentioned that all the film mechanism parts of the camera body that wouldn't be needed for the digi magazine to be working but would still be constantly working whenever the camera was on so would add more wear and tear, I don't know much about this really, i guess not having tension from the film moving through the camera and the possibly faster speed used for shooting digital stuff could be a problem???

    I like the idea though, especially if it was something i could rent out to shoot digital rather than having to own a digital camera that will just go out of date, it would definitely make me consider investing in some good glass myself in the future instead of just my lonely zoom lens. Also would mean i could use all the accessories i already use on the SR.

    In a sort of unrelated note i watched behind the scenes of "merlin" a british Tv show, and was suprised to see they were shooting on an SR3, made me feel a little bit of happiness.

  5. I would say Max8 is a ridiculous idea...for the money spent to convert everything (remember the lens must be recentered too, not just a widened gate) you might as well upgrade to 16mm.

    there was a modified 4008 on ebay a few weeks ago priced at £2500, which does seem ridiculous to me (it didn't sell), could easily go 16mm for that like matthew says.

  6. The base of my NPR's motor had a slight taper so appeared to be bigger than the standard 3/8.

    As everyone has said, make sure your tripod is able to take the weight/ or look around for something that can. Its a heavy camera to balance, if your stuck for cash some of the old wooden legs can be picked up pretty cheap, but if your going to be using it alot a solid tripod and head will be a good investment in the long run.

  7. Hi,

    Was wondering if anyone knew anything about this time lapse unit on ebay...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/THE-SHUTTER-for-Arri...id=p3286.c0.m14

    Wondering if it would be possible to use on the SR2, (the seller says it is), but would the single frame kit needed for the cinematography electronics intervalometer be required?

    http://www.cinematographyelectronics.com/index_gallery.html

    Obviously it isn't as good looking as the cinematography electronics unit, but at the price its on ebay for it looks like a very cheap way to do some time laps, that is if i can find the right cables.

    Any info/knowlege would be great

    Thanks

  8. i would say 120450022861 is definitely the better of the two. It has the alcan motor and the angeniuex orientable viewfinder.

    I would say the downsides of it are the lens mounts.

    Is the lens with it going to be suitable for what you want?

    I would also say it seems a little expensive, although im guessing thats because the video tap is with it, maybe able to pick up an acl or aaton ltr or something similar for that price? although i'm not sure what the camera market is like in the states at the moment.

    im sure alot of people on here have much better input on this subject than me.

  9. I'd send it back personally. It's quite dishonest of the seller to not show the poor conversion job in his auction photos.

    It doesn't look like the lens mounts have been modified, it is normally quite obvious that they are out of alignment.

    Have you ran some unexposed film through the camera to see if the gate scratches???

    It's a shame people can't leave these things alone if they're going to do such a bad job and aren't experienced with hand tools.

  10. very good price, Shame it isn't one with a C mount as well, i'm not sure how many lenses there are in Ca mount that cover s16?

    thsi must be quite an early S16 conversion to have to CA mounts???? anyone have any idea?

  11. Hi Jamie,

    I submitted work I had shot and directed mostly, I think there was one film on there that had been directed by someone else. I'm also not sure what the NFTS looks for in an applicant. What I do know for sure is that getting there is hard, I went last year for a Directing interview and never got further. I'm also pretty sure the other 15 people who'll be on the workshop are all talented and show enormous potential. So I'm really just happy I'll get to spend three days bouncing ideas with these guys and gals and hopefully more comes of it.

    Stephen man I watched some of your shorts, they are the Rivington films stuff right?

    Jamie what was the majority of your reel, had u studied somewhere else before this, or where they films shot on the fly with friends?

    Anyway, to all going to the workshop I really look forward to meeting u, it should be alot of fun and good learning experience if nothing else...also I'm South African, so Im quite keen so see how you British folk look at cinematography...

    Oh, stephen, any word on what kit we will need? I arrive in the UK the day before, and I know from past experience I can't take dust off and such stuff with. I also have the worst stocked kit bag in the world anyway...

    Hi,

    No my stuff isn't the Rivington film stuff, i have no association with them. Sadly my parents decided to give me the most common English name, not a great start for a budding cinematographer...

    I'm still really unsure of what to take, i suppose its better to have too much and not using any of it than not having anything at all.

  12. Hi,

    good news on getting through to the workshop. Did you fly over for the interview or was it conducted by phone??

    I've also got down to the last 16 and was coming to post on here pretty much the same question.

    I'm not sure at all what the workshop involves or even what kit to take with me, if any.

    Morgan Peline who is a forum member graduated from the cinematography course there so maybe he will be able to shed some light on it for us.

    Anyway good luck with it and i guess i will see you there.

    Stephen

  13. thanks for the feedback

    The film will eventually be uploaded on the net, at the moment we're still doing a lot of editing, hoping to enter it into a few festivals and see what happens, although if we get a trailer uploaded i'll be sure to put a link to it.

    I like the lighting in the bathroom shot. What was your reasoning behind leaving your focus on the shoulder of the girl rather than her face in the mirror? Also I see your tag for the shot that used the 250D but can you tell us which pics are from which stock.

    It's probably not the best still for me to have chosen from that scene, the focus changes, as in the scene she moves closer toward the mirror then further away, it was sort of improvised acting so there weren't really focus marks. It's supposedly after drinking alot of wine so i guess in a way it is a reflection of how she is seeing herself at the time. I'd actually planned for it to have a slight yellow tint, using 1/4 CTS gel but the lab ignored the instructions (i think it actually turned out nicer as they have done it, looks alot more sterile)

    I tried to tag all of the stills with the stock but it wouldn't allow me to edit the post again.

    1st still is 250D eterna

    2nd 100EXR

    3rd & 4th vision 200T

    We tried to work the mix of stocks into the storyline, with the idea of graininess increasing as the story unfolds, and becomes more hectic. I'm not entirely sure if it's worked out like that yet, I was expecting quite a step change between the older stocks, possibly there is and i'm just not used to using film enough to notice yet.

    Thanks

  14. So, this is probably obvious. I recently used an sr2 for the first time, what a great camera.

    My question... With the arri collapsable cores on the take up side of the mag, do i just take the film off them and send it to the lab without any sort of core or am i meant to try and slip a nylon core in the centre of the film??? I assume the lab must need the film spooled onto something so it can be fed into their machine????

    thanks

  15. I had my eclair npr s16 for sale on ebay a week or so ago and it didn't go for £2000.

    this is what was included in the sale....

    Eclair NPR Super 16 Film Camera.

    Converted By Les Bosher in 2008

    * Super 16mm Gate

    * PL lens Mount (allowing you to use the most up to date lenses available)

    * C lens Mount

    * 2 Magazines

    * Custom Upholstery Products Barney (used for one shoot)

    * DIY attachement for arri SR 15mm rods to add accessories (Mattebox, follow focus, lens support etc)

    * Kinoptik Viewfinder

    * Baby Legs Tripod with custom fluid head for NPR (With flight case not pictured, made by FILM TECHNISCHE GERATE Cradles motor to lower centre of gravity)

    * Angenieux f2.3, 10-150mm zoom lens (Arri B mount)...(Covers super 16mm frame from 10-14mm focussed above 2 metres, then from 25-150mm focus to infinity) (both stills in gallery where shot with this lens)

    * Kinoptik f1.8, 5.7mm PL Mount lens

    * Arri bayonet to PL Mount adaptor

    * Nikon to C mount Adaptor

    * MOTOR

    * Pelicase 1650

    * 12v Battery, lead and charger (new last year)

    * Camera manual

    I could have either lost alot of money from the sale and someone would have got themselves a bargain. I've now split the kit up to sell.

    I think if you look around you will find an eclair in your price range. with the C mount you could start out with cheaper slr lenses although i know people have different views on the quality. or even rent PL mount lenses when you needed. The only problem i've ever had with the NPR was shooting in a tiled bathroom about 2 metres by 3 metres, which required a few blankets adding on top of the camera other than that its great. If you make an adaptor to add 15mm rods and get hand grips on there handholding becomes a lot easier.

  16. Hmm,

    dont know if anyone can help here, im looking at an xtr plus on ebay and the guy says its serial C1764, but from the info above that suggests it is just a regular xtr???? can anyone help, i dont want to suggest to him its not the plus model if i am just being retarded and not understanding the info correctly on here.

    (i am planning on buying the camera not just out to cause trouble on ebay)

    thanks

  17. Hi,

    thought i'd share a few stills from a short film i shot on my S16 NPR, I don't think id have managed to ever shoot s16 if it wasn't for all the help i've had off this forum.

    It was a self funded project, we shot on EXR100t, vision 200t and eterna 250D (all cheap off ebay)

    Telecine was best light to DVcam, these are pulled straight off without any post work.

    I think the older stocks looked alot nicer than the newer fuji.

    The lens was an angenieux 10-150mm, i'm pretty happy with how its all come out. I mainly used lowel omnis and tota for fill, with muslin and a 2k to simulate sun light in a couple of shots. Hopefully i ahcieved a natural look?

    Any critiques on the lighting is welcome, i'm still learning.... One thing i see is that some sort of dulling spray would have been useful on the lightswitch in the second still.

    thanks for looking

  18. hmmm, well i now seem to be able to control the dv deck from adobe but still cant capture or see a preview with adobe.... any ideas??? please help i have alot of footage just back from the lab i need to start editing,

    thanks

  19. Help please!!!!

    Since upgrading my system to windows xp x64 pro (probably a bad move but seemed like a good idea at the time) my sony dhr1000np will not capture/play anything with adobe premiere pro cs3, when i connect the thing to the computer it seems to think its a tuner of some sort,

    Does anyone have any suggestions (other than buying a mac) i have been having alot of compatability problems with the 64bit operating system so i'm guessing it might be that????

    any help would be greatly appreciated

    thanks
