    X-rays

I'm carrying the camera in a carry-on bag. Would it help to put thin lead around the camera at the area of the CCD to prevent cosmis rays?

    X-rays

Is there any problem at all to x-ray DV cameras, DV-tapes etc in airports? I know x-raying undeveloped film is not good.

    Cosmic rays and CCD

A friend of mine told me that JVC had taken 1000 cameras and shipped by air and boat, and the ones in the air had more destroyed pixels in them. Could be an urban legend though, at least according to Sony Stockholm ;) I guess the risk is pretty small, even though the chance of cosmic rays theoretically is higher when you're 10 000 meters up in the air. Then the 11 year sun spot cycles... where sun winds "blow away" cosmis rays, resulting in different amount of cosmis rays depending on year... oh well, enough :)

    Cosmic rays and CCD

I've heard that transporting a DV-camera by airplane might create hot or dead pixels in the CCD chip due to cosmic rays. I'm going to travel from Sweden to California with a Sony DXC-D30P/DSR-1P camera. Does anybody know how common this problem is? Also, x-raying a DV-camera shouldn't be a problem? Niklas

    Filmlook on DV?

Does anybody out there have any tips on how to achieve the best film look on DV? I guess CineLook and Magic Bullet are the programs to be used. Are there any other software that can be used for this? I've tried some different set-ups with these programs and so far Magic Bullet seems to be better, except for the rendering time. Anybody agree? Disagree? Hints? I'm using Canopus DVStorm and the deinterlace is working just fine... :) Thanks.
  6. Is it true that the depth of focus are different on a DV-camera compared to a 35 mm camera, using the same aperture, shutter speed etc?
  7. I'm thinking about buying a JVC BR-D80E Camcorder together with a JVC DY-90 Videocamera. The format is Digital S (I think it's referred to as D-9 nowadays). I have a Canpous DV Storm card in my 2 GHz PC. Is there any way to get the Digital Signal from the Camcorder (which of course doesn't have firewire out) into my computer that has firewire in? If there's any kind of converter for example? SDI to Firewire, since I prefer not going via SVHS to SVHS, which otherwise could be a possability. By the way, I fully understand that I wouldn't be using the Digital S capabilities to a maximum by doing this, but I can't afford more expensive editing equipment right now and we get those things for a good price, and I want a better camera. :) Any suggestions at all?
  8. Does anybody know how many pixels you would need in order to simulate a 35 mm movie frame? I've heard something like 80 Mb of data for one frame of Jurassic Park, but don't know if it's correct. Does anybody know? 10K * 10K ? Or even more? Less?

  10. Hmm... I think Tony should loosen up. Besides, if anything works for anybody, that's great isn't it? Every subjective tool that can help the DoP create a piece of art should be regarded as a helpful tool. Your opinions seems to be as diverse as the hair of a gaffer electrified by an angry DoP hating polaroids. Hey, I wanna be a writer/director, but this forum is interesting none the less, especially all the opinions. ;)
  11. Hi, I'm about to buy a Director's finder, but where I live I can't try any to make up my mind. Have any of you any recommendations? What was good about them, bad? I was thinking about Kish optics, and the future-vu, ultra-vu, the Personal Director's Finder etc. Please tell me a little bit about your Director's Finder. Sincerely, Niklas Harlin
  12. Hi, Anybody out there who got a used Director's Finder for sale? Preferrably the PDF, but others are okay as well. Best, Niklas Harlin
