  10. Thanks for the link. I ended up reading the whole blog. I've been such a fan of the graphic novels that this is a show I'm so looking forward to this fall. I can't wait to see some undead action on s16mm!
  11. Wow, haven't checked on this thread in a little while. Thanks you guys for all the support it means a lot to me. I'm still sending it to festivals, the most recent is to SF Shorts festival and am still looking for a few more, so wish me luck on that. :) PS Look for an article about Popsicle in an upcomming issue of Small Format magazine!
  12. Thanks Tony, I'm glad you enjoyed the film and thank you for leaving those very nice words. I think it's interesting that you used the world "simplicity" to describe the film. During preproduction that was one of the things I wanted it have, a nice simple story and to tell it in super-8's unique textured format to really bring out the emotion of the girl. PS.. I've heard the french new wave remark from a few other people too :) Justin
  13. Thanks Nate, I'm glad you enjoyed the film! Justin
  14. That sounds very simple to construct and when you finish your cinechrome anamorphic let me know! Justin
  15. Thanks Rolando, Does the LA7200 screw onto the threads of the Canon like a filter or would I need to do something special? My main DV camera I shoot with is the 100b so I've thought about getting that lens but it never crossed my mind to use it for super-8. PS.. Do you have your kodachrome online? I would really like to see how this method worked out for you. Justin
  16. Thanks Tim, I truely believe the reason the film came out so well as in part from the information I learned here. I've only shot HD and DV before this on numorous shorts but I studied for 2 weeks on this site to learn what I can about shooting black and white film. I do wish I shot it in anamorphic but it's just a crop in FCP. I've thought about making my Canon and making it widescreen but I think i'm going to keep it 4x3. I will diffenently watch out for lens flares and weather next time I shoot. Looking back I wish I had the lens hood for the Cokin P series filter holder I was using. I'm happy to hear that so far you guys like my film! Justin
  17. Thanks Zamir, I'm glad you liked it. I do agree with your comment about the actress, she is just a friend of mine who did some acting way back in high school. I hear you on the "norm" for black and white shorts... You should see what gets turned in for class. Some people need a hug. Justin
  18. Popsicle is my first ever serious film to be shot on... well film. My two other attempts were camera tests using Pro8 Ekt 100 and Kodak Plus-X. So here it is: Popsicle I shot this over a 3 day period in the early mornings down in Newport Beach, CA. The camera was a Canon 1014xls and I choose 6 rolls of Kodak Plus-X with process and transfer from Spectra. Since this was my first "film" production I would really like to hear your comments on anything about it. I learned so much from this experience and I now would like to hear a professional opinion on it. I am currently enrolled at Orange Coast College in their film production courses with hopes of transfering out. I have yet to take the actual film production course and everything I've learned so far has been from this site. Currently I have submitted it to the Newport Beach and Seattle film festivals and I am planing on submiting to a few more.
  19. Hey Kyle, I recently completed a short Super8 film shot on Plus X. It was the second time I shot with Super8 and wanted the magic hour look to it. The film has a pretty heavy art house feel to it and I wanted the magic hour to compliment that. For all of the shots we used a yellow filter and ND filters where needed. The only other piece of equipment we had was a reflector and the film came out pretty well done. I'm saying this because I think from what I gathered from your post my film has the same qualities you are going to aim for. I'll post or pm you a link to the film if you want to take a peak to see if that's what you are going for. Hope that helps.. and what camera are you going to be using?
  20. I'm sorry to hear that, I agree airport security isn't the most intelligent bunch of people. ...Maybe we should all carry a single roll of 800 speed film, to force them to hand inspect the bag.
  21. I liked it and how you got the sound to match. The only comment I have is that I wish it was a little more smoother. Good job either way though. PS It would be really interesting to see the Vision 200 as a comparison. Justin
  22. Thanks Joathan for the input. I replaced the 500 in the kitchen with another 1k. I am considering adding a 500 for behind the couch to act as the backlight for our character Andrew I will also look into gelling the lights with probally the 1/4 CTB. I hopfully will get into the studio to do a lighting test soon and I will do a revised lighting plan after that. Thanks again. Justin
  23. Greetings everyone! I've come here looking for advice from some experienced professionals on my lighting setup for my final project in my Film 155 class (1st Year Television). For my final, I have chosen to recreate the kitchen scene from the movie Garden State with the characters Andrew, Mark, Mark's Mom, and Tim. This is the scene where Andrew wakes up after partying with Mark to find a man walking around in a suit of armor. Which is then followed by all the characters seated together in the dining room having breakfast. We are allowed one cut in the production, which would be the cut from those two scenes. I am changing around the set a little to better suit the studio we will be shooting in. The set with the couch will be a little darker then the dining room and have rays of light poking though the windows which are going to be covered up with hole-y curtains. The dining room set will be brighter with a window in the corner with light shining though it as well. Both sets will have soft lighting for the interiors and for the light coming though the windows will be hard light gelled with I believe straw-yellow. All lights are computer controlled and are fully dimmable. Any Advice to my current set up will be greatly welcomed as will as any critiques!
