  1. I have zenit quarz 1-8c. It seems that lightmeter isnt functioning. Batteries seem to be fine. I can set aperture manually but when i put it in auto mode then its not working. When i tilt it on one side then aperture needle falls on that side. I have another question. What is this triangular beneath the aperture line? Link: http://img9.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1001c.jpg

    Storing film

Where should i store my unused film? When im gonna use it in couple of days should i keep it in fridge all the time or it can be on my shelf or smth. And how cool the fridge has to be?
  3. Could there be any problem with flicker when using HMIs, tungstens, kinoflos (with 18fps)? What lights and how much light to use? Film is ektachrome 64t.
  4. Sorry for double post. how is the widescreen centre? Especially telecine and turnaround time. Have any samples?
  5. Im planning to use them aswell. Ive been in contact with them and they said that their prices are low because they dont have those expensive telecine machines that those big companies have. They have Tobin Cinema Sytems TVT8 Type J if that tells you anything. They also said: "The quality is good value for the price, we transfer plenty of Super 8 and get a lot of repeat custom." And if turnaround time you mean the time your film gets processed and telecine'd, then they said about 2-3 weeks. Im gonna try them with my test reel and then let you guys know.
  6. Hey, I plan to shoot my next short film in super 8. I don't have camera yet, but i'm looking one to buy. Ive made research about prices of film and everything such. So i have here couple questions regarding shooting super 8 in studio conditions. This means we will be making sets from zero. I will be able to light it the way i want. I could have all kinds of lights from kinoflos to tungstens, HMI daylights ranging from 200W to 4KW. What would you recommend for the use of lights and how to use lights and work with super 8? Its going to be in color and probably i'm gonna use ektachrome 64t. I would want it to be quite colorful and high contrast. Thanks for any advice.
  7. Thanks for the feedback. I enjoy the art side of cinematography more than technical. I like to watch and study arthouse movies just to watch cinematography and pictureside of the film. I have done some lighting myself for photography and for filming and i really enjoy the outcome. Especially i love colors and depth. Actually i dont have even video camera i only have digital photocamera and i've used it for everything. I've created allkinds of lamp ad-ons to change the color and brightness of light. About Directing i have to say i dont like editing and post-production process much. And i dont want to become a cinematographer for money, i've never thought about how much they earn so when i was here i thought i ask this, cuz probably i'll need sidejob to make a living. I forgot to add that i dont live in US or in UK. I live in counrty where cinema is at very very low stage- Estonia.
  8. Before going to university to learn cinematography what aspects should i study myself. Like lighting rooms or people or technical study or taking pictures. Just to be curious how much cinematographers earn? In hollywood and europe. Im bit confused between choosing cinematography or directing/writing, because i like taking pictures and filming(films, not weddings etc) and i also have many many ideas about scripts and movies. And i cant decide whats best for me. Any suggestions?
