  1. That is encouraging news. I look forward to seeing footage. Thanks for your openness.
  2. No ones asking for names just want to know have all those dp's seen footage from the cam and then put their order in or did they jump in on faith like so many others?
  3. Well knowing alot of those high profile DP's and knowing what they make a week and what they get on rentals of their own equipment, purchasing a RED is the cost of a 5 day work week, a no brainer and no risk whether it lives up to their expectations or not. I mean have all those dps seen footage from the cam or are they buying on faith which for them is a drop in the bucket finacially and a financial boon for them if it does? Maybe its an inconsequential gamble for them.
  4. . Sometimes I don't log in when I visit this forum and I just saw that pic. I just assumed it was the panning shot of a sheering wagon wheel. Your still shot of just before the sheering pan is a great example of understanding the rolling shutter even without camera movement. I read that RED is working on fixing it but I thought that this was the nature of a rolling sutter and not fixable. What can be done to alleviate this problem?
  5. Well apparently if you want to do vfx work it might be a serious problem.
  6. Been reading about the rolling shutter issue on Reduser. What are other peoples opinons on this. Seems the fire chief has suddenly stopped his ubiqitous heh heh heh's, fallen asleep and no response on this has come. If you download the clip they have offerd, its the first shot. Watch the wagon wheel. http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1883 http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1983
  7. Maybe I'm missing something here Mark but are you seriousely suggesting that the camera REALLY does not exist and its just a marketing ploy for an upcoming film. I'm confused. Are you joking just for the sake of stirring the pot? I don't understand your motivation or your persistance. In a previous post you were shown a series of companies that are in league with RED and they're all in on a deciet? You want footage to be shown when NAB is still going on? What other comany has released footage of an upcoming camera on their site. You seem to have lost any patiernce in this camera. And I think you do a disservice to this forum buy espousing this conspiracy theory. You sound scared I just don't know why.
  8. Chris if you have been on top of this RED from the beginning you know full well that a 4 lb cooke lens was not the way it was first being promoted. It was a shoot anything cam. Those were put on later and you know it. It was a shoot anything cam, super 16mm, still lenses, primes. No need for the cooke poundage if you didn't want it from the start.
  9. Oh Chris I'm done. You go right to 4lb cookes because the pic says so when it was promoted as an anything cam with any lens like maybe a 1lb super 16mm zoom or even lighter still lenses. I got here a 17.5-70mm zoom lens with pl mount that although is not up to cooke quality by any means can cover super16mm and weighs less than a pound and can get the job done for some situations. Weight w/out bat was under 7lbs originally and onboard flash with bat and small zoom or still lens we are talking about a very light pro cam when we've used 20+lbs cams without any support.
  10. Right and even with your explanation of 'physically on the camera' thats an extra $500 so you can have an onboard anything flash module when it was presumed, 32gigs or not, that at least the ability was included in the price. Not anymore. So with reservation $200 extra for bat/lcd + $1250 for production pac + $500 for flash module. All expected by some at the beginng to be included.
  11. Again that is a cost that for some they were not expecting. How are you going to mount a v lock bat and a raid drive on top of the camera. You will need a vlock plate, a top RED bracket and who knows what else. Now how will you hand hold this top heavy thing? Shoulder mount and red rail thats how. More cost for Some when they were expecting an HVX type form factor when that was how it was initialy promoted. Maybe he'll come out with a baby red that shoots 2k on down with onboard flash and battery closer to the original form and maybe thats what some should wait for.
  12. Again Chris, since you curried favor with Jannard, judging from your posts on the marketing site, and your love of debating skills is getting you "in" with your posts here, FOR SOME people who got on board when it was first announced they never factored the price of rail system because they didn't need it and it wasn't necessary with respect to the form factor first announced. Maybe you got into this late and have no recollection of that. FOR THEM, if they had a reservation its now $200 plus $1250( or less depending on ala carte accessory purchases) extra to get a working cam because the cam didn't need to be shoulder mounted disregarding all extras that they have added ,as they say at no extra cost, but which was never a desire for SOME. IIRC now that at least 32 gigs of flash was included in the price. But now no free flash either. I have a couple of hand held rigs that would have worked for the original specced cam but cannot be used the way the cam is now. Also you wold need to purchase a bracket at your extra cost if you top mount which would also make tha cam top heavy if you include the red raid and now do need the rails and shoulder mount. The original marketing had certain people thinking a certain way and now its costing extra. Thats a fact not fantasy. And if he changed the form factor to give us more goodies he should have mentioned that extra cost factor sooner to those he definitely knew would be bothered by it. Because lets face it he did market to the a younger more prosumer market. Judging from posts on the marketing site this forum aaaaand is posts are sem to still be an issue for Jannard and I hope his comments to you about why you are still posting here hasn't emblodened you to post here just for your amusement. When the cam comes out I'm sure we'll have a more technical and thoughful discussion of the cam and maybe Jannard will find his way here again to answer some questions but the pre market hype machine he expects some of us refuse to lockstep to will always bother him and thats unfortunate for him.
  13. I think to some extent Partizio has a point on what was first announced to what REd has now. Onboard 4k wasn't what got people excited at first but they gave it to you anyway by taking away some of things that made the camera appealing for some. Yes specs have changed for the better but the assumption originally was for onboard battery and on board lcd included in the price and yes its now $200 more for those things but how do you mount the battery? Surprise! the RED one production package at $1250. remember you've already spent your $2500 allowance on bat and lcd if you have a reservation. Yes the battery is bigger but if it used smaller on cam batteries the form factor and weight would have been closer to what was originally promoted and cheaper batteries would be used. then you could have a bunch at $80 each for a day of shooting. Arri SR, ENG vid cams, etc., click a mag on, click a battery on, slap a lens on, and slap on your shoulder. No rails, no brackets, no handles if you don't want them. And many films and events have been shot this way. Can't do that with red. You need at least some of the Red One basic production pack and I really beleive that had Jannard offered the mounting of the battery and a way to put it on your shoulder in the 17.5 k price he would not have any people questioning the price of accessories.
  14. Jay I think it took a bit of guts to write what you did in the first post. Its easy for cynics to grab that post and run with it. I especialy liked this line: The internet makes it real easy to say things no one would say face to face. Your response was right on.
  15. Ralph you do know that framing the questions and then answering them yourself is a bogus way of dealing with these issues. It just makes you look foolish. And theres always a Fransesco that comes on and stirs the pot with "film is better" and now it gives fanbots free rein to paint everyone with that brush. Again foolish. And please stop being so sensitive to words like enlighten and foolish. Trying to wrap the use of those words around you as protection to make your point. Focus pulling is at least a two person process. More complcated moving shots will require more people to pull proper focus like a dolly grip etc., and no matter if you have 24 hour access to the cam you will never be able to practice those shots. Seems some of you are going to do this alone. Can't be done no matter how much new tech the cam has. One operates, one takes measurements and pulls focus the dolly grip better be on his mark, an AD may have to cue someone, the actor may be a drifter of just two inches and on and on. And the focus puller better be on their toes especially in low light situations where its crazy tough even for a veteran focus puller to keep it itogether. I'll also go back to the Phil Rhodes and Graeme Nattress tech questions. Phil asked a question and from what i could tell never got a real answer. It seems like an attempt to dazzle me with all the form factor stuff but a real important tech question gets answered as if one were at a political debate. Thats what I believe is the essence of the issue on this board about this camera. And don't get me wrong i think Graeme is one of the more knowledgeable people around.
  16. Ralph I feel I have to enlighten you on some things because I noticed you have become a champion of something that does not yet exist. If you look at the recent Forbes richest people list you will see Jannard at around the high 500 number and if you look at his bio they have there it states that he is a "savvy marketer". Thats the reason I think you have some naysayers. Its not because we are dinosaurs holding on to film or that we don't believe the camera will never be released. Thats what the fanbots would have you believe. Its simply we just don't like being sold to in this way. Your comment, about some shill Jannard hired that in your opinion is a great guy because he has a hot girlfriend might be the way you buy equipment but not me. I've got a hot girlfriend and could care less about his. I've read his posts and he's offered nothing but salemanship. I have read his posts in the past on other gear and find him lacking in any true technical knowledge. Hes just a saleman. His opinions rely on simple basic user observations, osmosis, and wikipedia. Big deal. Know that in the US, marketing has become such a gross occupation that it automatically causes some of us to react in opposition because we know we're being played with, i.e., Our nitwit president has sold us a bogus war, has told us to go shopping when things got bad and daylight savings time is being manipulated by corporations with our nitwit prezs help so that people will shop more. Shills are placed in bars with pretty people to push alcohol products, blog writers arer payed by corporations to say things about products, mainstream newspaper writers we trusted are paid to shill for divisive government programs and it goes on and on. The naive never notice, the aware only want the straight scoop not evasion. We have yet to have a full clear explanation on many tech questions that would not hurt any nondisclosure agreements. I have always fully expected the RED to come out. Oakley is a public company and if Jannard was leading us on it would be harmful to the share holders. I fully expect it to shoot great pictures. I could care less if its film or video. Personally i don't like blind obedience to a product we know very little about, even though they keep stating it has been an open process. (Please note here agagin savvy marketer). And if that causes Jannard to get upset. Too bad. Thats what forums are for. Dissemination not fanboydom. I doubt he's losing sleep over it. And in the end he will have the last laugh I'm sure. The day is coming soon and we will find out. Another issue which I find relevant and was put perfectly in a recent post by someone very clear headed is the fustration in getting across the fact that there are very few talented focus pullers around that can keep critical focus for a cam like this if everyone is shooting with 4k pl 35mm lenses and want their actors to actually move. I have this gut feeling that that one observation is going to kick the fanbots in the gut when they get their cams because its so true.
  17. JaRED land/ aka in the past as the angry Zoomforce seems to have gotten the job of viral salesman to the fanboys of RED and glorified Production Assistant to the REd team. Barry Green is the only reason to visit dvxuser. Graeme Nattress is only reason to visit REDuser. If I walk into the booth at NAB the person I would most avoid is Land. I don't want the "used car salesman approach" to my questions.
  18. I'm looking forward to what the footage looks like and I find these little reviews they release funny. Its like those quotes used in movie ads. You gotta smile at them because its niether true nor false without more information. I liked this quote also posted on dvxuser by cheerleader/employee? JarRed. It made me laugh a long while. "personally i think the reservation holders have gotten it pretty good already.. with redcine and the monitor and these screenings etc.. not to obviously mention the fact they are giving us a $200,000 camera for less than $20,000" ___________

    I've Found JJ!

Jarred you seem to be working for RED, you seem to be at their labs everyday. Are you getting paid by them? Are they giving you a free camera? Whats your stake in the company? I'd like to know this instead of some self serving post where you want to come off as a nice guy. Because from what I've read you can be just as antagonizing as you claim Richard to be. Seems any one questioning the RED on dvxuser is pounced on and you seem to ignore those who posted those attacks creating a biased based of posters. Why don't you ban them? How can we believe that Richards banning was just because of his post and not part of your agenda. Come clean with your agenda because the evidence points to you having one. What really amazes me is how quick you are to defend a man like Jannard (try and get up off your knees) and how petty JJ can be regarding a clear minority of disparaging posts.
  20. This cam can be no different than any other in my view. I'm curious as to why you say this because that is my whole point in this thread at least for me. i want to make sure it is for those type of people. Its valid filmmaking. Cassavetes? Doc work? ENG? There is no reason why it can't be. Window the chip, slap a super 16mm zoom on and there you go. From the new pic which Mr. Jannard has clarified a little it will be able to be used run and gun. I just don't want them to forget that kind of filmmaking and the new pic frightened me in to thinking they were taking it in a direction where this cam wasn't for that kind of filmmaking.
  21. If you accuse someone of lying then all I say is take a quick trip to the archives on DVinfo and dvxuser. You should know better. I remember someone mentioning legal action and I remember your apology. You are right about one thing the discussion is over.
  22. You know Shannon I remember your passionate bashing of a certain Panasonic camera that got you banned and smacked down from several boards. Real professional. I realize you look for a fights, because that seems to be the way you operate, under the guise of professionalism, so I'll just say "yes Shannon you are right". To David, yes the 416 and the Aaton are in the right direction and hope they are listening. The viewfinder/ LCD is an issue. It says viewfinder is optional on the RED page so i would take it it comes with an LCD. If money is an issue in purchasing the viewfinder I hope that the lcd can be configured far enough away (with Hood) minus the cage that it can be used shoulder mounted.
  23. You know Shannon I think you are the real instigator. If Red says they are listening does that mean they are listening to applause only? If they say they are listening does that not mean that some people might have a problem with their design? If they say they are listening doesn't that mean that i should voice a concern? You're good with the design? Fine. You've done your job now move along.
