  1. thanks everyone for your input. can i do think green is the best choice, but there are a lot more issues i have to deal with such as the spill from the fabric itself. unfortunately, I am shooting the commercial in taiwan which having all the necessary equipment i need shipped over is not an option for me. ( I got quotes from Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand, but the cost just doesn't fit in our budget. our budget is only 70K USD) but I really appreciated all of your help.
  2. Hi, I am shooting a commercial with underwater sequences of a model/actress in a diving pool about 12' deep, and I have done some rough planning but am open for any ideas/suggestions.the model will be performing against a blue/green screen placed underwater as well. the pool is about 25'x15'x12'(LxWxD) my questions are, 1. which color(blue or green screen) would be my best pick ? the inside of the tank is painted in light blue and the model will be dressed in white/light color. 2. there is no underwater lighting equipment available from where I am shooting the commercial. so all the lighting is coming from outside the pool which makes it a bit more problems for me. I am planning to put a 20'x20' blue/green screen in the long end and have the model maybe about 12'-15' in front of camera. I am hoping to use wider lens and have the model as close to the camera as possible to get less kick off the blue/green screen. i am planning to light the blue/green screen with a 4k Arri HMI X light and have a 6k HMI par as a back light for the model. then putting 1 or 2, 6'x6' ultra bounce in the water off camera and using another 4k HMI pars to bounce key light for here face. this is my best guess as all the lights has to come from outside the pool but wasn't sure if that will work. any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
  3. thanks everyone for your help, I have gathered a lot of great info and I will look into them and will post my solution to let you now.
  4. Hi, i am shooting few interior scenes in a mansion with a lot of restrictions. no screws or nails, and I wanted to create a soft top light for general ambience. I am not a big fan of bouncing off ceiling because it is hard to control the spill. i wonder if there is any light weight fixture I can hang overhead without extensive rigging. i thought about rigging something like ringlights or kino bulbs without the housing, but I am pen to any suggestions. thanks for your help.
  5. thanks Marc, I am planning to do a light haze, and the mirror is a good idea!!
  6. sorry i didn't specify the location. the room has a skylight right above, consider the room as cylinder and the skylight is right in the center above. I am planning put a 1/4 light grid to diffuse the light and skirt down for spills for ambience level, the the windows around the building is about 4'x5' and there are 7 of them. some of them will be blacked out to create contrast and I want the beam of light coming in at a roughly 40 degree angle high as a 3/4 back light. I am a bit worried the Xenon might not give me enough width for the beam i desired. and by the way. I do have a 60' condor on set. please feel free to contribute your thoughts. thanks very much.
  7. you can find those at homedepot for about $10.00 and I used them for a movie I shot a while ago for accent. they look blue and slightly purplish which i think is pretty nice for the scene (morgue/medical lab scene). i do not know if they flick shooting with different frame rate. good luck and have fun with them.
  8. Hi, I am creating a sun light effect (hard beam)for a day interior scene, and wonder if anyone has a=ideas of what kind of lighting fixture would be appropriate and affordable for the budget. a 4K Mole Beam HMI cross my mind, but it is kind of expensive. the lens diameter of the light need to be fairly big to sell the effect. BTW, it is a scene in a mansion.thanks.
  9. Hi David, I am shooting a s-16 short with full BB on neg at a similar location as your photo references. I would like to know how did you balance the exposure with sky and your actor in foreground. did you use additional light for the actor's face or bounce off the sun? and the sky seem exposed normal especially with a full BB, did you ND the lens? I assume you used Fuji 400 ASA, is it right? thanks for your help
  10. Hi, i am doing a driving scene and a few shots need to be taken through the windshield. I know it gives a slightly greenish/blueish tint on actors' face, and wonder if it is a good idea to put a correction gel to balance it. thanks.
  11. David, thanks very much for these great info. I think i am gonna expose normal and pull 1 stop. form your opinion is my lighting ratio gonna be too much after the BB? Normally, I would worry too much when process normal at -1.5 on key and +4 backlight, but since I am doing a full BB on neg, I am a bit worry it might get too contrasty. I also want to avoid the sky blown out by the BB so plan to use an ND6 grad on top. am I hitting the right direction? I will be doing a test soon, hopefully, I will have some results to share. thanks.
  12. Hi, I am shooting a day exterior scene at a desert route, and planning to use Kodak 7201(50D) with a full bleach bypass on neg. I am rating the stock at 100ASA to compensate the BB, and my key will be roughly 1.5 stop under and back light around 4-5 stops over. I am a bit worried about the increased contrast with BB, and wonder if anyone has similar experience with this kind of lighting ratio can share with me. I though about pull 1 stop at lab. does tht mean my neg will be 1 stop under and need to bring back up at telecine? would that increase more grain to the film? does the pulling to reduce contrast concept only works when print on film or also works for digital color correction? any information would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Hey Bobby, not sure if this info still able to help you for your shoot as I just saw your posting, but I heve used Lightning strike for similar effects on a MV i shot. you can probably get it for FREE coz they have student loan out program if you can bring them a school letter or they have discounts. the cool thing about the unit is you can adjust the unit's intensity and frequency, it starts with 8K i believe, but it doesn't take much power as 80 amps. i used it with a 60amp genny...hahaha. anyways, here is their website http://www.luminyscorp.com/products/lightn...ikes/index.html, and check out my video see if that's something you are looking for.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLeuKW4vdJc. let me know if you need any more info and good luck. 14. hey Bobby, thanks for sharing your test with me. I am thinking underexpose the 29 a full stop for the bleach bypass compensation and not doing a pull process to save some skin tone for my actor. I'd love to see your movie if I have a chance, Just curious about the look, and BTW, I will check out the AC for Darius Khonji. thanks a lot and I will let you know if i have something new to share with my test.
