  1. Hey!

I got a challenge: in the studio I work at, we got two cans of 7240 Ektachrome VNF dated back to October 1977. The film is suppossedly a clandestine shoot inside a Mexican prison in order to accuse the authorities of abuse. The film has been hidden for almost 40 years.

The thing is that we need to process it. We can't process it in colour. Are there any suggestions? We normally use HC-110 to process old motion picture film with good results.

    Thanks!

  2. Hello, if I can put my two-cents on this thread, I used an Elmo 1012 Super 8 camera but I mesured the light with a Canon T3i. The results were great because I had in mind the differences with the shutter and the actual lighting scheme I was using.

Bear in mind it is cumbersome to carry around a digital SLR AND a Super 8.

  3. Thanks for your insight Perry! I have been looking for an Eclair II for ages but now the All-mighty US dollar exchange rste against the Mexican peso makes it more complicated so I am looking for options. Thanks again!

  4. Yes and it works but 16mm film is much cheaper. Also dont like acetate film because it brakes however easy to glue. Also tried caffenol as developer and peroxide as bleach.

So cutting blades is not good idea? I meant pull down mechanism in Beaulieu shouldn't be precise I think.

I'm open for ideas. Can support group with 3D printed parts or precision machining.

Wow!!! Peroxide as bleach!!!??? How does that work???? I am terrified to use sulfuric acid and potassium diachromate for the bleach I normally use!!!!

  5. Hello, I have seen Kinor 16 cameras come and go on ebay. How good are they? Are they silent? Reliable? How good is their image quality? What are the lenses it can take?

    Thanks!

  6. Sorry, I was away for a while!

The great thing about questions is the fact that more questions rise and more knowledge can be shared!

    HI Antonio,

give them a go. For the kodachrome, as you know, all you can do is black and white. Given the very real chance of fogging on the film due to age, I think just process it as neg. Same with the E160. I recommend using something with a bit of punch like D19. Have processed hundreds and hundreds of old rolls of Kodachrome as bw neg that way. You will need to do a rem-jet removing pre-bath. As you will for the colour neg.

Its worth doing if you have time available, but not fresh film

    cheers,

    richard

Nice to read you over here, Richard! We don't have D-19 anymore in Mexico.

Do you think I can use HC-110 instead?

Last post. I promise. Based on your photo I'm 99% sure that 160g you have is the newer em-26.

It is indeed the newer EM-26 process.

    FWIW, here's some Super 8 em-26 Ektachrome I processed in D-76:

Note that this cartridge was just inside a camera I'd purchased, so aside from the opening, all this footage was shot by someone else who knows when. Probably some time in the late 80s/early 90s.

Hey Josh! Did you transfer the film with your set-up featured in another thread? It looks cool!

Just to add my $0.02 regarding DIY processing in a Lomo tank:

I've successfully processed 1990s K40 Kodachrome as both BW neg and BW reversal - results were okay if a bit murky - it's possibly worth doing if you can pick the stock up cheap or free. Older Kodachrome (eg the K II on the right of your pic) I'd use as leader - it's not worth the effort IME.

The Vision2 is an earlier version of the currently available Vision3 stock and can be processed as C41 if you want to do it yourself. Otherwise there are pro labs who will do it in ECN (its native chemistry) for a fee. Bear in mind this is a colour neg stock and not reversal.

    greets from London

So you recommend just using the KII as leader and not even bother on tests?

Have you ever used e Flexicolor kit to process Vison colour neg?

It is what I have handy right now.

  7. I use Borax to grt rid of the rem-jet. I hate that step but the results look great. Since we don't have many choices on film stock over here (then again who does in this world?), we use whatever we can have handy.

    Fools rush in . . .

    You’re welcome

Which format are you using most?

I am mainly using Super 8 these days. But then again, it's the stock I have handy right now.

  8. I got all of this film and I wonder how I can process them.

I have a good idea of how to process the Vision stock but I want to experiment with the other stocks. I have access to Lomo and G3 Morse tanks and a wide array of B&W developers and perhaps I can even get my hands on some colour developers.

    Any help will be appreciated.

  9. Forgive me, I had forgotten your dilemma.

But I do wonder why C41 can be mailed and not E6. Maybe it's the bleach. Presumably you've asked the C41 supplier if he'll post E6.

C41 comes in powder, the Tetenal comes in liquid form. I still have no clue why the difference. Perhaps you're right and the bleach is the one that is more dangerous.

  10. Here are some examples (none of them are cross processed) shot by forum members

Friedemann Wachsmuth, Heikki Repo and Maik Lobborn, respectively.

This movie is set for theatrical release in September. Parts of it were shot on 16mm RSX-II 200.

The results seem amazing! I particularly liked the A-Minima one. It is nos kosher though!

    Hi

that stock is aviphot. I have cross processed it in super 8 in ecn chemistry. Grain was unbelievable! It was like pictures drawn with a blunt crayon. virtually abstract.

Richard, I am planning to use Unicolor C41. Itis the only available chemistry to be mailed to Mexico City. How you got ECN chemicals? Are they available down under in bulk?

Actually Rollei rebranded the old Agfa RSX-II 200 into the Rollei CR200 for 35mm and 120 still photography so you could have a look there, there's many things on the internet about it. It's a beautiful film stock, slightly warm and with less saturation than more modern reversals, looks very natural. But it's also more grainy. Without this grain it would be one of my favorite for still photography.

It can be cross processed sure, but it will get very contrasty and you can't predict which tones you'll get. But it's worth a try!

I like the unpredictability of cross process but I'm not sure if I want that all the time.

If I were payng that much I wouldn't see the point.

I don't see the point either Mark but I gave up on trying to import the E6 Tetenal developer. It is impossible to get it in Mexico. I love the colours of reversal but I guess I'm stuck.

Thanks all for your comments and tips!

  11. I know I bag on about it but...

On APUG we used to arrange bulk purchases and share shipping costs across many users to NZ (even worse than mexico I can imagine)

Well, I'm flying solo over here, Chris! All expenses are on me!

I looked up ORM-D, and while the US Mail is limited to ground transport, Fed-Ex and UPS may not. Don't know if they would do 'international' transport to Mexico, but they may transport some ORM-D items by air to Alaska and Hawai`i.

Where's NAFTA when you need it...

    Exactly, John! Where is it!?
