  1. Hi Guys,

I've been powering my Arri 2b and BL2 with xlr to red and black connector cables to 12v 7amp sealed lead acid batteries. I previously had the cables put together at Ametron. They don't do custom cables anymore. Do you know where I could get these cables made?

  2. Hi Guys,

I have an Arri BL2 and an Arri 2b (with way more mags and easier to shoot with). If I'm transferring the 35mm footage to HD, how big of quality difference will I see after the transfer with the BL2 vs 2B? Looking at a previous film, the 2B has borders between the frames while the BL2 is almost solid images with just a very small line between the frames. I"m using the same lens on both.

    Thanks,

    Gary Robinson

  3. Hi Guys,

I finally got my lemon Arri BL 2 fixed to the point it's useable. The motor is working, but when I load some mags, and start to run the camera, the buckletip switch is switched almost immediately, turning the motor off. Normally this switch is tripped at the end of a roll. Is this switch tripped by improper film loading? Can the switch be removed? What problems can lead to this switch being activated?

  4. Thanks Frank,

    I'll look into it.

Have you checked the flange depth and ground glass on the BL2? With your Angenieux zoom at 250mm the is a less depth of field at the subject and more depth of field with the lens at 25mm, but at the film plane, it is opposite. At the film plane, the depth of focus is much more shallow with the lens set at 25mm than at 250mm! Check your flange depth and ground glass. If it was the lens, it would cause the same problem with both cameras.

Hope this helps - it should be cheap to check and fix.

  5. Hi Guys,

I have Angenioux 25-250mm lenses on both my Arri 2b, and BL2. I haven't shot with the BL2 yet, but I noticed that on my BL2 only, when I zoom in and focus, I lose focus when I pull out to 25. Any ideas on why this is happening?

    Thanks,

    Gary Robinson

SAN FRANCISCO ? The world?s biggest maker of sunglasses increased its market share today with the announcement that it would buy California-based Oakley Sunglasses for $2.03 billion.

The deal, as reported by Bloomberg.com, is expected to make Luxottica untouchable in the sunglass market."

Any idea on how this will effect Red?

  7. Hi Guys,

I went to the Cinegear Expo. Red didn't have a booth this year, but I hear they gave a nice demo in the theatre. I saw a demo of the Sony F23 HD camera which was very highresolution, but for me, it paled in comparison to the Fuji demo with a clip from David Mullen's work on "The Astronaut Farmer." Any other notes from the show?

  8. I'm going to direct my first feature this year. I have some money for production and attaching actors, but I don't have the full amount so I'm putting together the package before I hit investors. What are the options for attaching DP's to a project assuming they like the script? Pay or Play offers? Some money down?

  9. I just got back from the Cine Gear expo in LA. I saw a pretty impressive demo of the new Eterna stocks from Fuji (kudos to David Mullen who was mentioned in the presentation) even though the projector was having focus problems. Between the new Fuji stock and the newest Kodak stock, which 500 speed do you think has the least grain?

  10. Thanks guys. Where would you place HDV? Right over digibeta. While editing trailers, I've had some mini dv's transfered from digibeta that looked terrible, while the betas transfered from the same source looked much better. Have you guys seen any cases where minidv's transfered from digibeta looks noisy?

  11. I've been using a couple of 12v sealed lead acid batteries for my Arri 2b and BL2. I think it may be a good time to get a battery belt. How are you guys powering your cameras? Where did you get your battery belts or batteries?
