  1. For what? Rental? IF so. I was ONLY including the camera body in the rental price! Of course if you want to get a loaded rental then you can double that. For instance. SAFER SEAS offered me a nicely loaded SDX-900 for $42,000.00.... Now you are right to an extent. I did not post the proper prices after looking at them. A few things from the Vericam up should be more. So, I'll amend the post the change to the proper prices....
  2. Quality (Top is worst): Model: --------- Rental Price (Day): -------- Buy Price (w/ Accessories): Canon XL1 --------- $150.00 ------- $2,000.00 DVX-100A -------- $175.00 -------- $3,000.00 Canon XL2 --------- $250.00??? ------- $5,000.00 Sony 570 ------- $400.00 -------- $28,000.00 Panasonic SDX-900 ------- $500.00 ------- $42,000.00 Vericam ------- $900.00 ------- $130,000.00 Sony HDW-F900 ------ $1,200.00 -------- $170,,000.00 Sony HDC-F950 --------- $2,000.00 ----- $190,000.00 Viper Film Stream ---------- $1,400.00 ----------- $170,000.00 **** Prices in Rental and Sale are only Estimates. and are not meant as actually Prices**** *** In the Rental Price, I AM NOT including ANY accessoies with those prices. Just the Camera Body. ***Accessories (With sale Price) incudes: Camera Quality Lense, and general equipment that makes the camera useable as a movie making camera.***
  3. Actually, I dont know. Im just guessing, But I think so. What ever it is, theres somthing there that splits up the light into both the CCD and the Optical Viewfinder,
  4. I'v seen a lot of MOS cameras used for Sound production. Aaton 35-III is a MOS camera, I know they used it one "Pete Jones, Stolen summer". I think as the "A" cameras, maybee "B". But still, it was operating durring diolog scenes.
  5. I'v Always wanted to own a Camera Package. But the cost is so high!!! Do you know how much a Film camera package cost's? www.cinevision-ny.com has a Arriflex 435 ES Package w/ accessoies for $105,000.00 Now thats not bad compared to some prices I'v seen!!!
  6. Video Assist. Although iv never seen a film camera that has an electronic viewfinder?!?!?! Maybee a LCD Video assist monitor. But I have seen or NOR heard of an Electronic Viewfinder. But, then again. Theres a lot I don't know about cinematography. It CAN be done this way, but this is NOT the norm. You would have to calcualte the Video lense to get the exact Length (mm) of the Film lense. Seems pretty hard to me. This is similare to Video assist. But only Video assist is just a little modual that plugs into somewhere near the viewfinder. and the light is split up by some kind of "Prizm?????" or somthing. Giving light to both the CCD Video Assist and the Optical Viewfinder.
  7. Im sure most places have them! Call them and ask, it's that simple.
  8. Yes, XL2 has 24p (2:3 and 2:3:3:2 Pulldown)
  9. I C.... Still pretty cool though ;) No, I dont think thats what its called. You are right, I was just on the XL2's website, and pixel shift is the offset of the green CCD. Vipers is called:
  10. So, it pulls somthing similare to what the Viper does? Thats pretty cool  (I think its called "Pixel Shift" in the viper. P.S) U know, this camera really competes in resolution to the higher end pro cameras. XL2 in 16:9 mode has 16:9 approx. 460,000 pixels. Compared to, say SDX-900, which has 520,000  GO CANON
  11. Hmmmm. The XL2 don't have TRUE 16:9 CCD's does it? and if no, does anyone know where I could get an Anamorphic adpater? (I HATE 4:3 Aspects)
  12. Is the same David mullen in the forum that DP'ed those tests on that site?
  13. Sure, the XL1s or even XL2 is good, But I still suggest DVX-100A. You jusy cant beat the quality in that price range.
  14. YAHOO! or GOOGLE "Elaine Manual" or "Elaine Camera Manual" or "Elaine" even. Im sure you'll come up with somthing. It may not be a manual, but it may be some way to get a manual.
  15. Well, I imagin Late Fall / winter / early spring. and Im guessing schedule for Principle Photography would be 3-5 weeks.... depends on the budget we have to work with. I got a Price list from Warner... I will say they tend to be cheaper on some things than some rental houses I'v seen. But I think bringing equipment from L.A to Indiana would be quite a feet, and cost a lot of money. I think I'll just allow the DP to get the equipment. I have meetings with 3 DP's now, all out of Indianapolis. If anyone here is interested, I can't say what the job would offer. But I'm sure it would be a learning and fun experiance for all! (lol) But contact me (PM, E-mail, YAHOO me, what ever), And we can talk. (The reason Im not starting this production sooner is the fact that I am currently working with a local caving organization to Direct there Cave film, Working title is: "The true Caver". It invlovs a lot of mud crawls, water passage's 1 foot high and everything. And we have to squeez Broadcast cameras and lights into them. PP on this to start 6-8 weeks from now.) *PP: Principle Photography
  16. I Don't know where I'll be shooting. But I image in and around Bloomington, Indiana. Which is about 60 miles south of Indianapolis. Im not sure if they have any camera shops or not. But I guess I could go up to Chicago and get the equipment. Its only 3-4 hours from me. Im sure they have several rental houses. Really im about 2 1/2 hours away from some large city's. Louisville to the south, Cincinnati to the east, Indianapolis to the north. I have also considered just hiring people who have the equipment. There are a lot of DP and film crews in indianapolis who have there own equipment. Which may work better? I don't know, we will just have to see. no thanks, lol
  17. Can someone point me to a good rental house that rents all the production needs from one place? I'v looked at clairmont camera and several other places. One will have a lot of camera euipment, but no grip. and likewise for the rest. Im looking for a place to rent a Aaton XTR Pro w/ 800' mag (Maybee a Arri 16 Advance w/ 400' mag if no Aaton is available), Dolly, Track, Panther Cinejib (or equal), lighting ect... Im not really wanting to rent everything from 2 oe 3 different places. but all from one. If anyone knows a place that has all this equipment very cheap for a MAx 3 day a week rental., and 2 if possible? since I have never delt with a rental house before , I am very dumb to the fact of how it all works. I Thank you in advance for your advice! Landon P.s) This product is out of my league im sure, But does anyone knoe who rents a Panther Galaxy crane w/platform? and if so, what the average price per day is?
  18. Phil Really? Tell me. How much control do you have over a $200 min-dv camcorder? Sure you can get nice locations and do the best that the camera can do. But the best the camera can do is so limited. The best control you have over a $200 consumer mini-dv camcorder is White balance (IN some cases, not even that). But, what ever.
  19. Jon, It depends on the camera and the Editing program you are using on how much control you'll have over how the final result will look. If you go out and buy a $200 Consumer Mini-Dv camcorder, you will have VERY little options to choose from. and will have to rely on post production to fix the problems (Not the best way to do it)... If you buy a Canon XL2, your getting places. You have a LOT of control over the image and even more than the origional XL1 had. With 24p, Film Gamma, ect... It is way better than any camcorder in the lower price range. But @ $5,000 it is expensive. The next option would be the DVX100A, with 24p and Cinegama. this will run about $2,000 - $3,000 Now if you have the buxx, and still want to stay in the DV formate (Not miniDv)... try the Sony 570... it is around $28,000 loaded from saferseas ( ttp://www.saferseas.com ). Now, if you can graduate to DVC PRO 50.... then you'll get the closest to HD quality available on the Panasonic SDX-900. This camera will run you almost as much as the Vericam... @ around $45,000 loaded. Also from Saferseas. (The Vericam is $65,000 for the body alone). Thats my advice.
  20. I was a little off. And I was also using 3-perf instead of 4 in the figure. I guess it only comes to 7 1/2 hours... Thats still I alot of film. When answers dont seem right to me, I feel I should double check and make sure they are right. But it seems it seems im wronge here. although I never said "No productions shoot 30,000 feet a day" I said "I find that hard to imagine", I never said it was not true.
  21. If you think DV is poor quality.. I once tried to make a movie from my $15 webcam!!!!  :D You can guess how that turned out :-) I am planning to go tomorrow and see Open water.... just to see how bad DV really looks on the big screen
  22. You do have a point. I suppose you could really just record the Video assist from the camera origionally and edit that and then save the cost of even a one light Telecine... But still. I guess it would depend on my budget really. If I shot film, but did not have the money to scan the whole thing to a 2k D.I, then I giess what other choice would I have but to record the V.I footage, or pay for a 1 light scan? not scanning 10 hours into the computer sure would cut down on the budget a bit also.
  23. Well, If you just want a cheap process... then yes. Optical is the cheapest. However, I would much rather shoot the film then scan the 10 hours of final footage into the computer, edit it and then film-out with that same footage. I guess that is just a personal like. and also you dont have to deal with the "Blow-Up" process. which adds extra grain and reduces the image quality. When you scan the film with say even 2k, then its contained a 1's and 0's... so that there is no real "Blowing up" to do. I guess this may be the most expensive way. But its the only way I'd do it. I once had to edit the first and only 16mm film Project on a Flatbed... and I must say, I would not want to have to do that again. But again, if your just talking about the cheapest way to get the film from the camera to the screen, then yes. Go about it any way you can.
  24. Why do they make them for then? What? What good is a 4k or even an 8k teleicne for then? What putpose d they serve in existance? Your talking about the optical process arent you?... This may be cheaper, But I dont like it.
