  1. Hey, went along to the Panavision Expo last night and saw some fun new toys, played with the nex Genesis HD camera for a while, apparently the viewfinders on the genesis have been scrapped on superman and they are now using sony viewfinders as there is a shaking problem with the lcd inside the viewfinder. Checked out the scorpion remote heads alongside the strata crane and the supertechno 50. PLayed with a xenon ringolite which was great and gave good eyelight, however the light is quite intense for the subject whilst having an eyelign close to camera, However the most interesting toy on show was the HYLUN system, for those of you who have seen the prototype or seen the showreel, this piece of equipment seems to have almost endless possibilities. Anyway, thought id just let you all know a bit about the night, cheers.
  2. Hey, I was wondering is anyone knows where to download the arri sr2 power and wiring diagrams from, if not, would anyone be able to tell me how to wire my own 5pin xlr cable to go into an sr2, i have all the cable and plugs i just dont know which pins to solder to which cables etc. Thanks guys Nathan Martin
  3. anyone want to share info about lights they have made, or cheap lights found to be useful? on my side i have made a makeshift 4' 4 bank kino flo out of crompton fluro battons and phillips tld 90 36w daylight tubes, all up it was about 130bux australian and gives some good light, however i understand that lino tungsten tubes must be bought because of the green spike in household tungsten tubes. Also ive found those 2 dollar push lights (dome lights) have been great for eyelight, and fill for lowlight closeups
  4. hey, ive just been shooting a short on a mixture of zeiss bayonette and pl superspeeds shooting almost everything at 1.3, i have only seen some rushes however so far so good, i definatly do notice the softer look it is giving however it is not much of a worry to me as this is not being projected to large, im more concerned about lighting as my lighting budget is nothing apart from what has been obtained for free, and for insurance reasons many dp's i know cant lend me their lights
  5. sorry, was a little tired when posting, i meant 10w
  6. Hey guys, Just trying to get my name around a bit more than has gotten so far. Ive loaded and pulled focus on mainly 16mm shoots and a lot of dvcpro, hd, dv, beta shoots and am just starting to do some 35mm work now. I have a full assistants kit, change bag, senior figliner trolley (aus version of magliner), dof calculator, soon will have 7" onboard lcd. Ive been working in the industry for just under a year but have worked with some great people who i believe have taught me well. Based in Sydney / Australia, im willing to do unpaid work if i am available, however money must be a priority. Contact me on: 0419 460 814 Cheers
  7. Thanks for the help guys, i was considering running a 4pin xlr out of the monitor to battary pack however that is a last resort as i know the monitor will drain a bit of power and i will need a fairly heavy battary to give a good run time on the monitor however i want to be able to use this monitor for handheld shots also and a heavy battary is just going to add more weight to the dp/operator. I believe the monitor runs 10 amps of power, could anyone suggest a small light weight power source that could keep this going for an acceptable amount of time? preferably with a short recharge time however i realise i cant be too picky.
  8. Hey, i just ordered a 7" 16:9 lcd monitor (not a propper monitor, but the best i can afford currently) i am planning on using it as an onboard monitor mainly on arriflex sr2 and sr3 cameras as they are the most common camera i assist with, i was wondering how i would go about making a new power cable to run off of camera power, its a 12v dc output. From what i understand, arri use lemo plugs and connectors however i dont know the full name of the plug, also these plugs look to be quite pricey, around $100US i believe, i was wondering if anyone knew of a cheaper version of the plug or anything like that. Another option im exploring is small lightweight battary packs, if anyone could tell me the best kind of battary pack to get made up that would be great also Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks p.s. if anyone knows a place that stocks these plugs preferably in sydney australia that would be helpful Nathan
  9. i dont think its been transferred to film however there is a brief look at some footage from superman at www.bluetights.net in one of brian singers video blogs. speaking of which, there wouldnt happen to be any friends of tom segal here who want to tell him to give me assistant work is there hehe
  10. geez, thats pretty dam informative, thanks a million
  11. Hey, a teacher of mine has schot on s-16 reversal and developed as negative to achieve a bleach bypass kind of look, what i was wondering is whether there would be extra charge for this kind of processing as i was thinking of shooting on reversal in my next project
  12. great, more ideas hehe do you think the mirror should be on a blue screen background or should i make up a wall that i can smash it from behind with? another question as well, does anyone know how to make prosthetics? because the character cuts his wrists with a piece of the mirror and his reflection is in the piece as it cuts through, if anyone know how to do this please tell, my only idea for this was a rubber glove painted beige and filled out with pieces of sponge and blood anyway thanks so far, its been very helpfull
  13. Hey im a film studend in sydney australia i was wondering if anyone knew any better ways to shot a direct mirror shot, and if anyone knew an easy way to get the mirror to shatter or crack on command. My original method hasnt been tested yet but it is as follows: Pain of glass held firm against a chromakey backing to simulate the shine of the mirror, then composite the reversal shot onto the blue screen. I plan on testing this with mini dv before shooting it on film however if there is a better way i will try it, plus i still do not know how to crack the glass when i want it to. any feed back would be appreciated Nathan Martin
