I'll try to make this short and concise.
First of all, I hope this topic is not in the completely wrong part of this forum, but it felt that 'First Time Filmmaker' was not fully appropriate only.
My name is Charles H. Joslain or Charlie.
I'm typing this from Munich, Germany where I live (girlfriend and son here) although I am originally from Paris, but studied and lived 5 years in London.
I wrote, produced, directed and edited a few quite successful student films in England, and I recently finished my first professional paid job for a water commercial. It was shot in Kazhakstan (no Borat jokes please, I heard enough).
A producer who was in the studio for the final day liked what he saw on the HD screens as it was rendering, and offered me to direct the music video for the hit song of the hot Russian chick who won the Russian equivalent of 'American Idol'. The song it not my kind of music, but the experience is suppose to take place in LA very VERY soon and although things are shaping up well in terms of equipment and team (Sony Z1, dolly, crane...), the small production company in charge of the project hasn't listened to my advice yet of finding someone local who could help with simply things ("Where's the closest McDonald's around here?"... for example), as well as give a very useful hand on the set.
The small production company is too busy with passports and plane tickets but I want this project to work so it is MY initiative to post this.
The overall budget is enough to get some people from Europe and Russia over to LA, but it is not much though.
The person doesn't need to be very experienced but must be hard-working and reliable.
I'll say that again: r-e-l-i-a-b-l-e.
The dates of work would be between 29th of July till 9th of August with perhaps a day or two of rest in between, but no sure:
_a few days of preparation/scouting
_the actual shoot; about one week
Having a valid driving license and your own vehicule is of course vital.
The team will be quite small, so I'm pretty sure that the chosen person would get to be very close to the equipement and not just serve coffee or watch in the back.
It could be a good experience for every film lover but I guess a filmaking student or passionate amateur would love being part of this.
Appart from the experience on a small, but professional set, the benefits will be:
_a few contacts with industry people
_the possibility to be hired again and for a decent salary this time for the next shoots (the girl is a singer, she has an album; more videos with more budget should be on the way in a few months if this one turns out good)
_300 US Dollars for sure. Perhaps more if we finish on time and on budget. The sponsor is travelling with us.
_the DVD of the final thing of course, with a rewarding name on the credits.
Finally, I know it sounds rushed and it is! That is why I am putting this add on this forum which was very useful to me when I was a student myself, but every word above is true. They (Russian producers/sponsor of that girl) want to recreate the Tatu phenomenon so we're recording one version of the song in Russian, the other in English. And the reason why they're in such a rush is that they want the girl to be part of some singing contest in LA coming up soon.
