  1. ..o.k. now i need to rent a 'briese 140' ;) thanks for your help guys.i try to light them soft to avoid unpleasant shadows but then again i don't want them to look to flat or to glossy.since they are young i'm not afraid to give them some shape.the shoots on sunday,we are shooting under a grid of 25 striplights so i have to look out for dark eyeholes. we'll see. cheers,s.
  2. just wondering, how would you light a group of ladies for a typical r&b video, say close ups and medium shots. of course this depends on the faces, make up,back ground etc.but you probably start with a ruff general set up.wuld you use soft boxes, flos, ring lites or fresnels. i know this is very general but those music video lighting stiles do' look a bit alike',to understate.
  3. hello kiarash, the shoot was yesterday and it was exactly as you discribed in your post.we didn't have a syncable strobe.we could only adjust the intervals and the brightness manually with two faders.so i checked the image on my viewfinder and the spark was adjusting the speed untill the flashes were in sync and we could shoot the sequence for as long as the flashes and the camera were in sync, wich depended on how good we matched the flashes/frames.if we were of sync the frame was only partially illuminated wich did look like a strange defect image.since it was a music video and we had only four shots with strobes it was o.k. to go for the much cheaper disco strobe than the expensive syncabale strobe.if you shoot longer scene i would recomend to go for the pro strobe. pictures coming soon...
  4. Thank you Chris and Kiarash, I'll try that.the shoot is on sunday and i will post the result a.s.a.p. cheers
  5. Thank you Kiarash, so basically the strobe flash should take longer than 1/50 sec.but doesn't t it have to be in sync then? in a video camera there is no rotating shutter.does anyone no what happens when your of sync with the strobing lights?is it just not on the frame or does it show video scanning"artifacts"?
  6. Hello there, I know this topic was discussed before, but only regarding the use of film cameras. I am shooting a music video and the director wants strobes in it. Is there anything i have to look out for when i am shooting 50fps or 25fps(prog. scan) on red cam,shutterwise/syncwise,when using strobe lights? I know f.e. that when shooting interlaced, the picture looks like"cut in half". can someone share their experience? thank you
  7. just saw zodiac and thought it looked very hd/video. i thougt it is quiet a contrast to have this very authentic 70ies feel in colour, camera angles etc. and the hd look upon wich it is created on. it gives the film a retro feel not in a `scratched celluloid` way but in a clinic digital analytical way.i wonder if this was wanted by fincher and the reason to choose hd over film or did he choose it merely for reasons of better workflow/postproduction?
  8. check out the video slideshow on this site studiodaily, explains it all.
  9. i like the warm colors and the overall look.to me it's a little to sharp and i would have avoided the reflection of the lights in the windows and in one shot the dancer in the back has like a spotlight on her and this distracts me from looking at the singer.anyway, good job.
  10. sorry, the youtube link for tre cani has changed,so here's the right one:

  12. i' m shooting a musicvideoclip on video in switzerland 50Hz country and would like to shoot with different frame rates.desireable fr would be 25,30 and 50 at a shutter speed of 1/50 sec.the hmi i use are not flicker free.am i flicker save with all those settings and does it dipend on the shutter speed?answers appreciated, thank you.
  13. thank you michael,i come from the video side but i get it now.cheers,s.
  14. on the varicam you can set shutter angles or speeds.can somebody please explain the corelation between shutter angle on a film camera and shutter speed on a video camera.is for example a shutter angle of 180 the equivalent to the shutter speed of 1/60 sec?if so is there a rule or a table available?thank you
  15. it was demanded that the camera should be handheld at all times.i put the zoom on manual and tried to make minimal movements to react to the music in retrospect and especially after editing i also think that its to much.on the other hand non of the general viewers ever seemed to notice.thank u for your critique.
