  3. I have read about a company in Russia making modified 2m's that are called Ostcams. Apparently they have nice crystal motors, LCD readouts, and even the capability to do time lapse photography. They also put a PL mount on them. Anyone heard of these cameras or know where you could find one? I've heard of them going for as little as $2500.

I own a Konvas 2M ostcam that Im looking to sell. let me know

  5. Anamorphic was not used. Those movies were shot in Techniscope, which utilized spherical lenses, specifically Angenieux zooms, combined with slow film and lots of light.

Do you know which Angenieux Lens specifically, Zoom focal lengths, vintage, speed, etc..? And anything else you can tell me that was used, to create that look, filters, processing ,etc?

    Thanks

  6. Anyone know what glass was used on some the old popular spaghetti western films, like "Duck you sucker" AKA Fistful of Dynamite or jengo. Im assuming some old panavision anamorphic. Anything you can tell me abut this style of filmaking as far as visualls, is greatly appreciated.

  8. Does anyone ahve firsthand info on using panavision's 16mm camera, the Elaine? I am going to be shooting a film in the near future for which the producers are writing an application to panavision's new filmmaker program. Super 16 will be the format of choice and I am trying to figure out whether to ask for an SR3 (which I am very familiar with) or an Elaine (which I have never even seen, let alone used)

The film is a fairly slick thriller but a significant bit of handheld is a distinct possibility.

IMO I would go for a SR3, especially if your doing handheld work. I think the SR3 is better camera, more reliable, and the New filmmakers package is pretty beat up, especially the glass. At least it was when I used it several years ago.

  9. Its a free standing tower, in non-operation. Its actually a training tower, at a tower company. They have a hoist system, which will work, but it is time consuming, and not very portable, if we want to shoot around the tower. It also doesnt reach the top deck of the tower, it reaches, just under it, which poses another problem, since we have several scenes on top of the tower. Everything is through the owner of the company and there will be osha trained employees there to help out.

Thanks for all the advice, Im sure will figure out something.

  10. Hi, Im a shooting a low-budge Independent feature, a good deal of the film takes place on a free standing radio tower, I believe the tower were using is some 200' tall. My question is, whats the best way to get an operator and a camera up that high. I realize e can shoot lower, and still have a great effect, but there are several scenes that take place on the top deck of the tower. We want to try and avoid green screen, and make the hights as "real" as possable.

Ive looked into aerial lifts, and the tallest, Ive found is 125'. Any suggestions? I suppose a crane with a basket could work?

    Thanks,

    Marc

  11. Hi, I have decided to sell my Ostcam 2M, very similer to a Konvas 2M, but with updated electronics, digital display, 1-60fps, Nikon Mount, Intervalometer for Time lapse, S35 gate, rotatable viewfinder. The camera Comes with (2) 400' Mags, lens Support Rods, base plate, brand new custom fit stormcase, and assortment of Nikon Lens's. The camera went through a Minor service about a year ago, and since then has only had about 2000 feet ran through it.

This is a very rare, special camera, I have only found one other person that has this set up as it it came from ostcam in the early 90's

If you are interested, let me know, and I can fill you in on all the details.

    Im Asking $4,600

  12. I started getting into photography at a young age, got my first camcorder at 13. I would make a lot of silly stories/ expierements with my camera. I then did AV class for two years in high school, and did the news/projects/segments for the school. I shot my first music video my junior year.

I wound up going to Music school to study film scoring and guitar. Turns out the whole time in music schol, I was making films, so i transfered to film school, got a reputation as a DP and shot a lot of projects there. I was fortuante to shoot a lot of film while there, both 16 and 35

    I am right handed.

  13. Hey, I'm preparing a plan to do some documentary 16mm film work in south india. Do i need permits or special permission for this (im in Canada)? I was at the Indian foreign office a couple of weeks ago preparing my visa for travel but hesitated to ask in case it opened a huge issue up.

I'm doing an amateur production, was originally bringing an arri 16st and nagra, but now ive downsized to a Bolex 16 and small Marantz recorder, both of which are less conspicuous and lightweight. I don't want to use digital at all.

I figure it will attract less attention also.

I have been there before, and have a support network for my story, im just concerned about getting bogged down in paperwork or refused.

    thanks

I traveled to Thialand, and throughout that part of the world with a Bolex, and really wasnt hasseled to much, only in airports when it came to x-raying film, which obviously I couldnt open.

  14. Looked great. Nice stuff. Looks like most of those where commissioned commercials not spec right? You shoot a lot of super35?

Constructive criticism: too long, I would cut it down to 3min...4min tops...what does everyone else think about length?

    Best of luck.

Actually all were on spec, except that silly cellphone/ipod spot. Gad you like it.

  15. It's great Marc! Real pro stuff.

What country are you/most of this, from?

It'd be great to see a larger, less compressed QuickTime version of this!

    Cheers!

Im in Los Angeles. There will be a higher res version on my website soon.....
