  2. hi all i wonder if it's possible to catch the material directly from the camera body and what is the difference with renting an item to read dvc-pro 50 ? it's for a music video thanks
  3. hello all i recently read an article about a dop lighting green screens with special green tubes (4X120) by Kinoflo for keying. I wonder if the same technic exist for bleue screens? Also i have maybe a stupid question : with a stock for 3200°K and a light at 3200°K i obtain a white light With a stock for 5600°K and a light at 5600°K i obtain a white light and the same cases with twisted corection filters i obtain a white light is it the same white light in all the setups? Thanks
  4. "cocoon" has a cool pool scene int/day and night
  5. hi from my experience filming in sahara there isn't much problems with hi temps and kodak stock. avoid direct sun like usual.(i did 2 film in august over 50°c!!) if you film close to december it can be freezing at night, but you'll have the best red sunrise and sunset your biggest problem will be SAND ! i know a crew using a tent to load the cam that covers the loader, tripod head and camera body so you can load sand proof..
  6. just an idea (maybe bad) could it work to dress people in white at night exterior and a frontal lighting to key the characters and, in post, assigne them a black color on a white background and floor? just the oposit of mr mullen's idea??
  7. Kodak just lounch this new stock it's 16mm film, just like a super "flat" raw format digital image that goes thrue an hD box after being processed at the lab. the box allows you to chose between 16 diferents "looks" of kodak stocks. (i'm i correct john?) it's 500 asa but you can rate it at 320 as well. you choose later between daylight or tungsten and +an - 2 stops correction later in the box. grain is the one of a speed stock thow. what do you think about that?
  8. thanks stephen and david it's amazing how every one of yours responses are a complete briefing on the matter and calls for each one experience. thanks again
  9. hello for a documentary, for TV i'm asked to film with the aspect ration 4:3 i'd like to film in HD what are the cameras able to film 4:3?
  10. hi jody i played it maybe 10 times!! and it's in my favorites: beautiful ! the editing is smooth and the compositions are great it sounds like you have about less than 5 differents films on this reel could you tell us more about this vacation film, is it a feature, do you confirm it's 35mm?
  11. an other advantage for the new panasonic if you work sd it's with an hd chip and it does hd in progressive. it only alows 3 chips of 8 mn each that you can download on a dedicated item.
  12. don't tell me the road was open to the traffic by the time this still was taken?
  13. hello look for painting and drowing books it's more than helpfull for rules of composition thrue ages then you have the style wich is often a "braking rule" way to compose...
  14. it's exactly the work of the great artist Ron Fricke who did "Baraka" . i think he is using mechanism for astronomy, with small motors used to produce the movment of the earth so if you "lie" to the programation system it will make for you extremly long pan, tilt and so on. in "baraka" fricke filmed a starfield thrue tree branches with a movment he did it also in "Chronos" filmed in IMAX have fun
  15. hi going in the direction of the a minima check the new swedish A-cam very light 3lbs!!! with a bone shape not reflex but you mentioned you wanted to operate with a video monitor we also tried a lot of rigs for "migrations" like helmet with "video on your eye system" you look like a "cyborg" but it works great my two cents (of euro) http://www.ikonoskop.com/acam/index.asp
  16. hi, i'm never confortable whith the concept of buying you own gear because films have to look differents when it's the representation of what's in the director's head. the reason why we have that many tools to deal with is because eatch tool is needed to make the image of a specific idea, so there is no way you can afford all the concepts posibles. also you can practice with cheaper tools as well as agdv100a and then motivate production peaple with those images to invest on you. Money peaple are nothing without creative ones so if they recognize a talented filmaker thrue your work, they will follow you as wel as techniciens, actors and so on... i think filmaking is a step by step world unless you feel like a director (witch will always be a stange planet for me) good luck and keep cool my too cents (of euros)
  17. a verry good day today with the kids, they are fantastic!! we had news from the fr2 dealer un belgium that the same pb already hapened with another sound engenear, it took him about 12 h to get it's files back with a special software maybe the one you mentioned over this post. we are working in this direction i know it's not the dedicated forum for sound but when it get to re-shoot an entire day it's becoming an operator concern thank you again for your help

  20. hi on the specs this cam has an asa rating of 800 asa what asa rating do you find on your agdv without filters with 1/8 with 1/64? thanks
  21. it can be a drop out phenomenon curent problem in hdv, they discussed about it on the dvxuser forum on an excelent erticle where the compare hdv, xl2 and the agdv100a
  22. hi all i'm starting a fiction(25min) in algeria actualy, we'v been scouting the last tow days and i'm very happy whit the diferent sets and the local crew. we are filming with the agdv100A and i was wondering what was the diferent software you where using in this format minidv-SD for the "matching colors" process after editing? also we intend to build a green screen in a studio for special effects, are they doing good in a format that small, are there any traps to avoid or tricks to be aware of (honestly i'm not familiar with special effects...) i have a women lying on the ground shot in a green screen, an "electrical bubble" surrounding her to incrust and the back ground will be the perspectiv of a street at night. the green screen is planed to be 15ftx12ft on the ground and 12x12 on the wall including the curve do you think it can be enouth for the street in it's depth? i'll give more news about this film if anyone is curious
  23. thanks all for your elements of answer, unfortunatly it's a job i did early june and i don't wrote down the exact name of the cam all i remember is that it was a 570 from sony given to "emergence" a fillm festival in france where 6 directors have to film and edit and project 6 short films on the same subject in one week, prior to film some pieces of theire long featur in pre-production. i doubt that it will help to find out what the format was....but thanks anyway for the help
