  1. Have basically no knowledge of knots besides my trusty shoelace knot and figured I'd better learn a few before getting caught out. What are the 5 or 10 most important knots to know in your opinions?
  2. Unfortunately we're going to have to go with the 3 onboard batteries we're getting so looking for a solution with what we have to work with. Not related that I know of, but you never know.
  3. Hi, I'm on a shoot with an Aaton XTR Prod, and we will be needing to use a remote follow focus some of the time, though at the moment we can't power the remote through the camera. The remote uses a Lemo2 output and requires an XLR4 female input, the the Aaton only has one XLR4 input and it is male and for the onboard battery. What are my options? Is it possible to get a Lemo2 to Lemo6 or 8 cable and plug it in to the Lemo inputs on the Aaton or would that not work? Would I have to get a splitter for the Aaton XLR4 input and send it to the battery and remote and just tape the battery to the body since it wouldn't fit in the housing anymore? Are there any other options? Ideally I would be able to do the 1st option as it seems easiest, but does that even work for powering the remote? Thanks.
  4. What about the RedRock Speed Crank, anyone having trouble with those?
  5. Kodak Vision3, further proof that film is not an archaic format that it waiting to die, but will continue to try to stay ahead of the competition, or should it begin to lag behind, will catch up and surpass it again.
  6. I wouldn't mind advice or pictures about that rig. I just finished pulling with it and have a couple of things coming up with it so any more tips im sure would be useful. We had the follow focus attachment though...
  7. unfortunately we don't have a flicker box, so at this point I was just planning on wiggling my fingers infront of the light we use to simulate the candlelight, any better ideas?
  8. well the mood for the scenes taking place at these locations are supposed to all be low key and the place needs to feel warm and inviting to contrast the other scenes that are colder and sterile. Here is the kit that we will working with... 2x4ft Kino - tungsten 2x300w arri 2x600w arri 1x150w dedo kit 2x1k pups 1x800w redhead 1x2k blonde 1x575 HMI 2x1.2K HMI and a selection of Chinese lanterns
  9. Now that we are three days away from shooting the other location has finally been found, and I was hoping for some more suggestions as to how others might light this room. Its supposed to be the flat for a couple of students that just graduated. 1. One scene will be lit by candle light and moonlight as the powers been cut and then 2. the power gets put back on and will be lit however I like, and there are day scenes and night scenes 3. We also have a bedroom scene that happens early morning, the bedroom is picture 3. There are day time scenes and night time scenes, and it supposed to be lit low key. If anyone has thoughts as to how they would approach a lighting set up for these situations that would be really helpful, thanks
  10. I imagine I am going to have to black out the windows... so If I black it out really well and there is no light leakage then I would be able to shoot the windows if I keep them somewhat out of focus? Also, If I have blacked out the windows how will I be able to use the HMI as moonlight from outside the windows?
  11. One problem I also have is that the whole shoot is during the daytime and we are going to have to black out all the windows, so I'm feeling like I can't shoot with the windows in shot, though i would really love to be able to. Does anyone have idea's about how to approach that problem too? Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming!

  13. Hi, I will be shooting my first S16 short film next week and would like some advice and opinions about lighting some of the locations I will be using. The film is about a girl who gets caught up in translating documents for a terrorist, and much of the action for this location happens around a computer in the room. The director wants a very low key and threatening look about it, and I anticipate light sources (defiantly during the night scenes) being from practical lamps, though I wouldn't mind parts of the frame being lit by moonlight as a source. The majority of the scenes in this location will be at nighttime though there will be a couple of day time ones as well. We have to shoot during the day so will have to black out. Really I'm wondering how others would light this room given this information if they could use any tools they wanted, and also after taking a look at the lighting kit I currently have how they would light it. Here's our kit at the moment. 2x4ft Kino - tungsten 2x300w arri 2x600w arri 1x150w dedo kit 2x1k pups 1x575 HMI 2x1.2K HMI and a selection of Chinese lanterns Thanks.... the first three pictures are the same room and the fourth is a room that joins the first. The last is the hallway from the front door.
  14. This one has a window that is just right of frame.

  16. Hi, I am shooting a short film next weekend using the AG-DVX102A. It is a film school assignment for a 5 minute drama. It is also the first time I will be using it and they really haven't taught us anything about it. Can someone let me know the important feature to set up. I've been able to take a look at it and have a bit of a play, but would really appreciate some help on it. Probably the main thing I am thinking about is features that will give it the ol' "film look" (of course) I tried to change it in the scene mode, to 25P but then it seems to add a very slight strobe type effect, and I can't focus very well at all, the subject has to be quite close to get him in focus. And it also makes it quite a bit darker, could someone explain that to me as well. Thanks.
