  1. Thanks for that. Yes I am in Melbourne, and I have taken the camera to Malcolm. Unfortunately he has sold his Zeiss Mk1's and his 16BL Zeiss Prime Blimp, but I guess I could rent a 10-100 T*, which will fit my current zoom blimp, and sounds like it would be an improvement over my flare-prone 'non-coated' 12.5-75 zoom. Anyone know where I can buy a Zeiss Mk 1 Prime Blimp for the 16BL? Have not seen one on ebay all year.
  2. Thanks guys, The zoom is a Vario Sonnar 12.5 - 75mm, and not the T* version. I believe it was used for TV drama in the 70's, but I don't know much more about the lens than that. The problem I have with using primes is getting my hands on a Zeiss Prime blimp for the arri 16BL -- rare as hens teeth down here in Australia.
  3. I own a regular 16 Arri 16BL EQ, and I'm planning a low budget feature, using rented Zeiss Mk1 primes where possible, but considering using my Zeiss 12.5-75mm zoom (T2.4) for much of it. The lens has just been collimated and rated 'pin sharp' all the way through the range, but I'm wondering how well any zoom footage will cut-in with the primes, especially (fingers crossed) if the end result is blown up to 35mm? I don't have any info on this lens, and have only done a small test so far. Stock is a mix of 200T and 500T, plus some daylight (TBC). Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers, Matt.
  4. Hello all, I'm looking to buy a goose neck viewfinder designed for the Arri 16BL -- the longer one used for hand-hold operation for models 50701 and above. There should be a few of these around. Anyone got one they want to sell? Please email me if you do. Cheers, Matt
  5. Hello people, I've just purchased a very nice BLEQ with a 'flat' motor and Zeiss 12.5 to 75 zoom (T2). I want to do a steady test on it, as there is a small amount of end-play in the reg pin. What's the best way to back-wind? Any tips on effective steady test procedure? I've got 100 feet of core-wound 250D, but don't want to use it all on the steady test -- there are other things I want to test with this roll. Thanks, Matt.
  6. Hello all. Just wondering if I can get some thoughts on whether Zeiss Mk1 B-mount Super Speeds (1.3) 9.5, 12, 16, 25 will cover the whole S16 frame, specifically when used with the following cameras: 1. Aaton LTR 54 2. Eclair S16 ACL II Any thoughts on the best lower-cost primes to look our for? Do all mm in the range work the same with S16? Any help would be great. Matt
  7. G'day all, My first post, so please go gently... I'm seriously considering a S16 ACL II for a low budget 80 minute drama to be shot in Australia. I've read the specs, and heard a number of great reports, but I'm looking for the low down from DP's who have ACTUALLY shot with one. Location sound is very important to me, and a couple of the planned locations are pretty 'live'. How noisy is it? Do different ACL's vary? Do they scratch? (I'm planning on Kodak Vision II 200 & 500 mainly) Is the whole English mags (400') vs French mags such a big issue? Finally, how easy is it to fit a video tap? What's a reasonable price (USD for a S16 ACL II). That's enough for now, I'm sure. Thanks to you all. This site has been a huge help already. Matt.
