  1. I am trying to achieve a cinematic look in an ultra-lowbudget HD horror movie (feature length). Renting the Varicam may be out of our budget range. How does the HVX-900P compare? If not, what would be the "next best" choice? Also, how does the Sony HDW F900/3 compare? -- Mike Forsyth
  2. I am an independent filmmaker producing a feature length horror movie to be shot on HD in the Hartsville, SC, area. This will be a three-to-four week shoot in late May/June. I?m seeking a cinematographer/camera operator with the experience in HD needed to make the movie look as film-like as possible. I need someone who can work with a skeleton crew, "guerilla" style to produce a professional finished product. This is a low-budget project and pay will be meager by Hollywood standards. Ideally, I'd like someone relatively local, ie, based in South Carolina. Please email me your resume and either include a link to an online reel or send a demo reel to the address below (please note any key sequences shot on HD). If you aren?t interested but know someone who might be, please forward info to them or email me with your recommendation. Please also let me know your minimum weekly rate. Most likely we'll be renting a camera but if you have your own you like to use, let me know the weekly cost of that too.) And please include your dates of availability. 3. This year I will be producing and directing a feature-length horror film on HD, with the goal of a release on DVD (possibly broadcast on some cable venue like the SCI-FI channel as well) The entire budget for this project is in the $100,000 range. Most of the scenes are outdoors, mostly day, but some at night, and the project will have to be pulled off by a skeleton crew shooting in somewhat rugged conditions. While I initially considered buying a camera, I realize that it makes more sense to rent as high quality a camera as I can afford. Which HD camera will give me the highest quality product for my investment (and, for that matter, about how much is it renting for these days?) In other words, which camera will give me the most bang for the buck?
