  1. from what I've seen, and all I know is that Ice will make fog stay low to the ground longer...but dont go by what I say, listen to homie and seek professional advice on that one. or maybe just keep checking and someone here could help.

    Good luck mate

  2. >A rack focus is really a cheap, metaphorical device for the unimaginative to link two objects/people in a frame.

I think someone is baiting us!

Many times, especially in 35mm, a rack focus is more of a necessity than an artistic choice. I mean, stuff has to be in focus!

lord knows I know what one of those is. I like them, nothin better than a nice smooth pull, I go to sleep thinking about it. thinking of that speedcrank sittin in the AKS box, the beautiful whip which has saved me from losing too much blood on those crane/jib shots (except one occasion, damn dp moved the camera into razor wire, and I went with it. lost a lot of blood actually, but thats what I LOVE FOR! LOSIN BLOOD ON THE PULLS!) ahhh, im in love, I miss my primes...

  3. "Digibeta has a fairly high comporession,"

Digibeta is only compressed about 2.3 to 1.  To me, that's fairly low considering HDCAM is much higher. :)

I wouldnt complain either, I'd be happy with Digibeta. Im getting sick of the DVcam stuff. I am ready to grow up

    maybe?

  4. My film/video...i mean video teacher at my highschool let me jump on a school project as the "Director of Photography" and I dont think he really knows the duties and responsibilities of a DP, after I start planning how I want to shoot the little coffee shop soap opera thingy and then he tells me I'm just doing the lighting, that I'm not operating a camera, and I tell him that I know I'm not operating one of the three cameras, But my operators will be shootin' what I tell them to, then I ask him if atleast get to expose the picture...he looks at me confused and tells me that it should be well lit and it wont have any problems, he even asked if I had a light meter, we are shooting on 3 vx2100's (not bad for a highschool program ey?) but I tell him that i wouldnt use it, and even if I did it would only be used for reference, I wouldnt show up with it and see if the camera's will be getting an exposure...i mean we're not shooting 100ASA film here, but for some reason I dont think he has a clue to what a DP does, I think he's got it confused with gaffer because he thought I'd just show up pop a few lights on a grid and call it good.

    Highschool drama...welcome back everybody.

Well, what I'd like to ask someone to do is write the duties of a DP so I can print it and post it in the class somewhere, the reason I am asking you and not doing it myself because I may leave something out, or may not even know something I should be doing as a DP...and my explanations of the job wouldnt be simple...maybe one of you's can help?

    Thanks,

  5. I shot a short on 7217 and it was sharp, fine grained even shoot 1/4 of a stop under came out great, I like these Vision2 stocks, I havent yet tried any Vision stock yet but maybe in the near future, I've got 1000' of 5279 sittin under my bed for a rainy day. would like to shoot it before I graduate. and I will.

  6. This may be a stupid statement, but I have been trying to look at some 24p footage (shot with any 24p camrea) online to get an idea of what it looks like, but I can't seem to find any examples of it anywhere! Maybe I HAVEseen it a million times but just don't know that I have. Anybody know any good sites that might have some examples of things shot in 24p?

    Thanks,

    Robert

Yeah man, go to this link and look around you will see that it offers a free DVD. click the thing that says free dvd right under the how to buy thing just to the right of the camera. http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/s...atGroupId=14569

  7. if he is asking for a film camcorder I dont think he will understand the AC manual too much. I am in highschool too, But I have been fortunate enough to find myself bumping into the right people who have given me chances to work with the medium many times before shooting film myself. Books for me are more so reference materials. I need to spend some time around the things Im reading about before I read them, helps me connect much better. and I think this may help him as well, reading is good, but go get yourself some hands one experience with film and then I think you should be set man. Spend some time in camera houses, and read a lot of what is in these forums. hope i was helpful.

    My best wishes

  8. that movie is beatiful. everytime I watch it I always end up thinking. WHERE ARE THE LIGHTS COMING FROM!? Like in the scene where the 2 kids are in bed, one is reading the comic and the other is bugging about what his father does for a living. The flashlight seems to provide fill when bounced off the book, But I cant image thats it, There must be another light where that book is just giving him slight fill. I dont know, maybe someone else could tell me how he did that one. because Hall freaks me out sometimes haha

  9. personally, I dont think I would create a smoky atmosphere if someone is just smoking in a room. I would for sequences that I feel need to be viewed in a more surreal manner. It depends on the story really, and the particular scene. I feel that smoking a room is just a nice way to show seperation from reality in the film. but I could be COMPLETELY wrong, it is jsut how I would use it. But I have got plenty of time to figure out what im doing as far as my DP work is concerned

    best of luck man

  10. I just did one where shot the car against darkness, and had a small moon backlight behind the car, then We did the cheap slight wiggle of the car ( i didnt recomment it at all) and all I did was swing a light on a C-stand over the car dimming it as it passes to create a street lamp. was very effective.

  11. sound like you are a man of quality, in which case you should go 16mm. Without a doubt it wil look and feel better than DVCAM, and when you say DVCAM are you just talking about the format or a camera? if its the format the only limitation to editing your footage is color corection, you will see artifacts on DVCAM, this can be avoiding in telecine. Personally Im all about the film.

  12. The show will be delivered on Beta---that's where I was wondering if the framerate would become an issue.  Are you suggesting I can output a 24P timeline to BetaSP and it will function properly?

If pull down is done on the fly then yes.
