  1. Does anyone know what the law is regarding showing trademarks in films? For example, if I'm filming a documentary and one of the people being focused on is wearing a Nike t-shirt, do I need to get permission from Nike to be able to show that footage?
  2. Hi, I?m just starting out and need some advice. I?m going to be shooting 2 music videos on a pretty tight budget. I?ll be using a Sony HDR-FX1 (it?s all I have access to). Most of the shots will be indoor hotel room suite and basement type stuff. There will also be some outdoor street, rooftop and/or balcony shots. I know very little about lighting so I wanted to know what would be a good starting set up for my needs. I can spend $1200 max, but ideally I?d like to be around $800. The most important are that it must be easy to carry around and set up, and it must be useable at 220/240 volts as we will be shooting in Europe. I was looking at some of the Lowel kits since they seemed easy to work with and had a good rep from what I?ve read, but there are just so many different variations I had no clue what would best suited for me. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Hi. This will be my first time dealing with investors for my film. What I'm confused about is how to structure the set-up for returns should my film be profitable. Is there some sort of standard set-up and percentages that people tend to stick to, or is it just whatever terms I can negotiate with my investors? I've also read that there are certain legal requirements when it comes to taking investors, but I'm not familiar with them. If anyone could offer advice here or direct me to where I can find good info on this I'd really appreciate it.
  4. Hi. I?ve been doing a lot of reading, but Im still quite confused :( . Im looking for the right DV camera to buy for my project, but my budget is very tight. This normally wouldn?t be a problem, except that Im no expert when it comes to cameras specs, etc. Basically I want to film some documentary style training videos (think "Pumping Iron" type material), which will be used for a website. So I'll be mostly filming indoors. It?s possible that I may want to make a dvd of the video later on, but for now my primary intention is just for web use. However, I plan to market and sell this footage, so I want the video to be of as high a quality as possible. So Im not sure which camera would be the best for my needs. But like I said, my budget is tight. I?d ideally be looking to spend around $1,000 on a camera. $2,000 would be the absolute limit for me, but I?d prefer to be under $2000 if possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
