  1. Am I the only one whose arms get hot and perspire in a film changing bag? It was so much so that the magazine came out looking damp and it makes me nervous for getting the film wet. I actually don't think it is sweat, I think it is the condensation on the bag from my body heat just like fogging up a tent or a car at night. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a way around it?
  2. Wouldn't you gel CTB for this? or am I just not thinking of it the right way?
  3. Just watched the video Daniel. I think it looks great. I'm even more excited about seeing my tests. What lens were you using for that shoot?
  4. I just got my NPR back from Bernie freshly converted to Ultra16 with laserbrighten. I'm currently shooting some test footage. Since Cinelicious told me they will charge me the minimum 30 minute telecine time I figured I ought to shoot some old footage I had laying around b/c it wouldn't cost that much to develop and if i'm paying for 30 minutes of time, I might as well use it. I'm excited to see how it turns out. Just from the maintenance on my camera I can say that Bernie does an excellent job at everything I've asked of him.
  5. I just got the lens back from Bernie so it's collimated and everything. I didn't know if that would be a factor or not. So it sounds like I should be good to go then.
  6. I was working on focusing with my angie lens on my NPR and a buddy of mine said an easy way to focus at the wider angle end of the lens (12mm) is to zoom all the way in to the 120mm and focus then zoom back out. I seem to remember seeing somewhere on here that the technique he mentioned doesn't always work with certain lenses (I couldn't find the post however). Does anyone know if my angie will be capable of doing that or will I run into focusing problems due to lens movements inside the barrel?
  7. I plan on using a Lexicon Lambda Audio interface and garageband or ableton live to record sound. On preliminary tests it seems like the sound levels are pretty low even when I turn up the gain on the audio interface. I'm using an azden sgm-1x microphone (which i know is far from the best), but is this normal in terms of recording for film? Just the fact that it's always a struggle to get the best sound or is this just not a viable way of recording for film?
  8. So it is normal to let talent read the entire script before auditioning? I mean don't get me wrong I don't think so highly of myself that i feel like everyone will steal my work but it's still my work and i'd rather them not pass it around. Is this something to worry about or just go with it?
  9. Great looking set up both of you. I got the redrock lens support and now I have to drill it out, but I'm waiting to get my camera back from Bernie. I can't wait to see the conversion and the laserbrighten. Comes in on friday! then I'll start working on the rods again. I'll post some pics when i get it worked out. Thanks again kevin and stephen for your help with this.
  10. So far i've only been able to find motors for the NPR that run at 45fps. Does anyone know of a faster one? Perhaps 75fps? I'm looking to shoot some slow motion scenes and I don't want to have to buy a b-cam to do this or is that just typical? I don't need sync at that speed. If buying a new camera is the only option what would a good one be on a micro budget? and I would prefer to just use my npr since it is going to be ultra 16 and I don't want to get another camera converted if I don't have to due to the cost.
  11. Fluid head is listed at the following url. Details are listed about the condition. If you have any other questions P.M. me or send it as a question on ebay. I don't really know alot about O'connor heads and I'm pretty much just selling it to free up space and look for a head that will better support my NPR. Thanks http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=110358314242 Item number: 110358314242
  12. Thanks everyone for putting your answers (and physics) out there. This helps shed some light although, it is making my brain hurt a bit (4 years since freshman physics). I will have to read and reread these posts. I can't thank everyone enough for their help. Scott
  13. Walter Graff also covers this well in his videos. Might be worth a look.
  14. I know CoC is different for 16mm and 35mm but does it also change when shooting in super16 or ultra 16 compared to regular 16? If anything I would think it would get slightly more shallow if noticeable at all. Is this true?
  15. Thanks for all your help everyone! I'll definitely try out the dyi version first, I like to try my hand in things
  16. I spoke with Les Bosher about putting some rods on my eclair npr but i was also wanting to check with some other sources. Problem is I can't find any. Anyone know of anywhere to get rods installed on an NPR?
  17. I've seen this too, and i've seen it even more with my film (16mm) that I shoot. Not to hijack the thread, but is this because I'm not having it telecined at a high enough resolution or what? Is it something a timer or colorist (depending on workflow) would clean up and give it that "polished" look?
  18. So I'm going to nyc this next weekend I'm looking for a couple of film related "things" to do. Being from oklahoma I'm sure there has to be some interesting museums or rental houses or anything I can go experience in nyc. Is this too vague?
  19. My budget is in the $500-600. Yeah I know its not a lot to work with. I was thinking about getting a kit of four of these lights with stands and barn doors: https://02c4947.netsolstores.com/index.asp?...&ProdID=114 Since it is 4 open face 800W lights, would that be too limiting as far as setup options? I'm figuring I just want as much light as possible so I can shoot on slow stock and then I can use fabric or poster board to flag and control the light. I know ideally i should rent for now, but with no rental houses within 4 hours it seems like purchasing would still be the best bet due to shipping etc. Ideas? Thoughts?
  20. Benson, I wasn't claiming it would be automatically be a good film just because the book was "good." I was saying that there has been a cult like following among students from middle school and up to college in many cases. So when there is such a frenzy over a book (that people have midnight dress up opening night parties for) i would expect them to flood the theatres to see it (if for no other reason than to get as much twilight as possible). I completely agree with you that one shouldn't compare book and film. Also, my quip about being out of touch was supposed to be taken in jest as it would seem most of us were our of touch about a book who's target audience was middle school students. No harm meant.
  21. P.S. I also think ID is something people on both sides of the evolution/religion debate know is bologna. It's pretty bad that christians think they can make any ground with scientists and evolutionists by using the ID argument. The focus should be about loving God and each other selflessly. Something I myself struggle with very often. No one cares where we came from if there is no point to it all and that's something I want my films to be about. Hope. Not prostelitizing or preachy, just that there is hope.
  22. I believe in God and I see the evidence of evolution working. I'm in the process of marrying my two beliefs together. On the one hand I have my Christian faith that is my foundation, resolution and source of meaning in this world, on the other hand I am a scientist and cannot disregard logical thought. I believe God is a God that is rational and makes sense. Yes there are many things above our understanding, but everything has a purpose in the long run. That being said I also think that all truth is God's truth so one cannot reject hard facts simply because they are difficult. I think the bible and God can stand up to difficult questions and examination if one actually seeks answers. That's my take, what about everyone else? Anyone have similar thoughts or am I the odd one out?
  23. So i've been doing a little research on using 35mm still photography lenses on my Eclair NPR. I'm thinking Nikon primes, 28mm or so but i have a couple of questions. I know these aren't cine lenses per se, but is this my best option other than getting a set of Cookes or Zeiss? Also, I've read that SLR lenses tend to loose sharpness at certain apertures (too wide or too small) has anyone had any experience with this? Is it mostly on older lenses or do new ones suffer as well?
  24. Basically you're out of touch.... if you aren't reading young adult books. ;) My girlfriend is a middle school english teacher so I've been hearing about these books for a while. I don't really think you could have known about it unless you really do read young adult novels. Basically it's a Harry Potter-esque vampire series. The kids eat it up and apparently so do some of the parents. Vampire teenage love story, what's not to like.
