Hey everyone. I'm a local director and I'm shooting a short on 35. I also the producer so now I'm investigating the best deals on camera packages and grip/lighting equipment in LA.
But I'm kind of flying blind. I know a few things, like Birns and Sawyer rents a BL3 for $350 a day. That seems good but I'm wondering if there's something better. Plus I don't know if their insurance is higher than another place making it the best fit. I just don't know.
I know these are conversations I should be having with my DP, but I haven't gotten one yet b/c I'm still trying to figure out how much everything's gonna cost to see what I'll be able to afford. There in lies my problem.
So, for me, a young independant director looking for the cheapest possible deals (though not sacrificing quality) where should I look?!
