  1. I am shooting a short 16mm piece next week in a library. The lighting is very dim and of course a mix of flourecent and daylight. I am planning on shooting both black and white and color. But I am confused by what film to choose. I cannot alter or add any light so I can't help the levels there. What is the highest asa black and white stock in 16mm. It looks like kodak makes a 250d but nothing higher. as for color i was thinking about using fuji 500d. i have gotten mixed reviews on it. I would really like the grains to be kept to a minimum. At 24fps a camera is usually a 1/60 of a second right? Is there a way to get something out of a 250d film so that I wouldn't have to be wide open, loosing so much depth of field. Would that mean to push or pull the film and what would it do to the film, make it much grainier? Thanks for any suggestions or answers. Molly
  2. thanks for the great site. i think that should help. but with the super sixteen you use the single sprocket film. should the sprockets go on the inside closer to the camera body or on the outside closer to the lid?
  3. So my new super 16 krasnogorsk arrived. i am shocked at how heavy it is with the crystal sync motor and the terrible zoom lens it comes with. The focusing is terrible on the lens. You have to be very far away. I am definitely going to get a wide angle lens. But my question is...how in the world do you load it? i looked online and found the manual at k3camera. but I cannot see those pictures clearly. Does anyone else have a clearer instructions on how to load it? Sorry for my newbie questions, but I am in the dark over here. Also I ran it for about 5 minutes with no film in it and then read that you should not run it on high with no film. Did I just destroy the camera? thanks, molly
  4. Is the jist I am getting that the 16 mm still shows some distortion with the super 16 frame. I would like the widest possible without distortion. I am also looking in to buying a macro lens. Can the Krasnogorsk take a volna-9 or industar 61. Will those lenses cover the full super 16 frame. Has anyone had any experience with those lenses? thanks, molly
  5. I am shooting a 16 mm short film which takes place in a library. There is a mixture of daylight and flourecence and I cannot bring in outside lighting. What can you suggest to use to get as make as corerect and fantastic color as possible. I know I can fix some of it when i telecine. But I would like to try to work it in the camera first. Also I want to get as fine grain as possible, but I think the lighting is a bit dim. Would 500d film be just terrible for grain? Has anyone heard of this fuji reala? Is the 200d good on removing the green?
  6. wow that was a wealth of info. I am eternally grateful. I guess I have to get a nice lens for it. Your suggestions are great. Another question I had was when framing through the eyepiece how do you know how to position your camera to get what you want in there with the new super16 format. Is there a slight left or right shift that can compensate? I will be shooting in some situations where symetry is key to the shot, so I wonder how I can figure that out.
  7. I just purchased a Krasnogorsk-3 which has the crystal syn motor and has been converted to super 16. It hasn't arrived yet, but i am anxious that I made a big mistake. I am a total novice and kind of jumped in a bit too early. I wish I had read all of your great posts before I bought it. Here are my concerns: I need to shoot close up maybe 3 feet and I need a wide shot, but it looks like with the super 16 convertion a wide angle vignettes. How much does it vingette? Is it so extreme that i should have just gone with the 16mm. Or is it minor enough that I can just frame it in when i edit? Now about close up. Can a close up diopter work with the 17-79 lens it comes with and how will that effect the super 16 frame? Mine doesn't come with one so does anyone know where to find one or is that something easily buyable in a local store. It says that some 35 mm slr lenses will cover the full 16mm frame. Can you recoomend any wide angle ones that will not distort the image? Any info on this would be so appreciated.
