  1. To those who have, please share any camera manuals, experiences and or tips! Thanks!
  2. Thank you both for your replies! Satsuki: I will def contact Paul Marbury, great resume!
  3. Does anyone know how someone becomes a 3D puller? I hear the 3D camera crew is completely different from a "regular" film crew..??
  4. Hello Greg!! I agree with you 100%- I am not very interested in operating, nor lighting but find the challenges of slating and pulling focus the most rewarding; when you get it bang on that is! A very experienced 1st AC is a very powerful person on set and has the role to be the decision maker when the DP has technical difficulties in achieving his vision- Although there are no oscars nor recognition, there is pride and accomplishment in achieving those goals from a purely technical approach. It was an honor working with you Greg, and I hope to one day become a focus puller/technician with a Panavision garage like you!
  5. Has anyone heard of the IVS of an SRIII getting fried when its turned on before the camera is turned on?!
  6. Mikael: Mire fixite!! Thank you! Apparently the French crew is coming back to reshoot so I will have them order one. Chris Keth: I usually use a Siemens star but after using the mire fixite, you can use a scale on the grid to tell the accuracy of the results-highly recommended! Chris Clarke: Yes the best method is the grid test projector but rental houses don't rent them out much.. Thank you all and best of luck this year!
  7. Hello I just got off a feature and remembered during prep that we had these registration charts used in France. You shoot the first passage after lining up the crosshairs of the chart, flip the chart upside down, line up the crosshairs again and shoot the second passage. The results are checked by the sequenced curved pattern which would form a straight line due to the 2 passages. My question is, the last copy of the chart was sent back to France with the gear and am wandering if anyone has one in hand that they can post or access over the net. Thanks!
  8. Thanks for the responses, the production is gathering equipment from several rental houses (names not given) but I feel much better knowing the place is westernized! :)
  9. Does anyone have any experience shooting film in Dubai? I will be 1stACing a music video next week and renting a 435 package equipment there. Apparently 2 loaders have been hired and the production says they speak English but so far judging from the vague information they have supplied me with, I can't be assured anything. Is the equipment reliable? Are the assistants experienced enough? Is there anything I should be careful with? As for the film, we plan to develop it at Kodak Dubai and take it back with us to Japan, would there be any problems with telecine or extra steps I should take beforehand? Any info would help-thanks!
  10. Thank you all for replying, it really does make sense what you're saying, I will definitely take it all into acount. Thanks again!
  11. I am pulling focus on a car commercial next week and would like tips on how to stay sharp.. the last time I was stuck in the trunk of a car since the director, car driver and camera operator took up the 2 front seats of the car. I was given an unreliable LCD, we were on the 4.7X Angenieux and I could tell the size of the lens off my FIZ but that's about all the info I could get. Are there any tricks on pulling focus through monitors? Any tips, info, stories welcome, thanks.
  12. Hello, I am looking for any recommended seminars or short term crash courses that cover focus pulling techniques and tips for 1st ACing. I was looking onto the Kodak 5 day course which is a little pricy, has anyone ever taken it? If so please let me know if it's worth taking, thank you!
