  1. hi Dror and welcome. a couple of things that you must take in mind.. HD is not Film, then a lot of light set ups and film treatment are not the same.. In my experience, to get the image that you want in HD you must try to get the most of image information in shooting to be change in post production. sometimes is not a good idea get the final image in the shooting because of the latitude of the image sensor in the digital cameras. Usually the digital cameras have a better response in low light conditions what means if you work in that light range have more control of the image. Be carefull with high contrast ratios, specially in the flesh tones.. an usual mistake is get a "yelowish" flesh tone when you overexpose showing the "digital" root of your image.. Please test your camera and light situations and post productions process before shooting to be sure which setup is the best for your project. Respecfully Rodrigo

  6. i think the most of people are worry about new hd products.. But i think that is important to remember that all this HDV camcorder are that an HDV format... usually the brand sellers try to show us (and sell us) the 1080 resolution stuff.. but usually "forget" the recording compression.. also they never say that the chip size is a important thing when we talk about resolution. You can not compare a real HD camera with those cameras , have 65k (usd) of differences... uhh.. the Lense.. an "HD" camera with a no focus marks lens???? MR. CANON WE ARE SERIOUS FILM PEOPLE, JUST BUILD A SERIOUS LENS....PLEASE
  7. Jeff .. i'm agree with you when you said that you must use your eyes, but i'm not sure about trust in the monitor. That's right that video rec and film rec are completly diferent images, but is because video rec was design for broadcast and film rec to be pos produced , because of the dinamic range of this option.. Then you don't need to change the ISO in your meter but use the gamma box or gamma correction plugins to get the middle tone areas .... I know is a big discusion., but i think that could give us more POV of this and other tecnologies all the best Rodrigo
  8. For sure is 640.. Don't trust in what you see in the monitor.. rodrigo
  9. bob.. film rec .. give m ore dinamic range at the image.. then you could "get" more details in all the areas of the picture.. But be carefull.,. if you want to work well with you must trust in your meter. The monitor probably show you an under expose image but in pos you must do a gamma correction to work with the complete latitude.. rodrigo
  10. The 1080 v/s 720 is not the only detail that you must consider.. The sony rec in 1080i v/s 720p in VariCam. That's a important diference in the final screening. Is no only about how many line you can get but how precise ys the frame that you get.. i v/s p is a old discusion.. but real
  11. But what about with the secundary costs.. Mean if you choose the sony's siste you will need a post production support to get a real HD image.. Is good but you must spend much money to get that quality
  12. A cheep solution when you have a low budget is a cars ND. You could buy it in a car supply store and you will have an emergency solution. Obvously is less clear than the profesional ND , but work well., specially if you shoot on video , because of the resolution
  13. I shoot the last year two sitcoms with my spectra 4A with good results. Exact measures, good handle and good reading: Just a consideration, Always have a extra battery with you, because ussually you did´t put atention in the low batery display. Remember that the temperature conditions afect directly to the batery life...
  14. someone could say some problems with the hvr-z1... mean what about the focus ? and the viewfinder position... in my opinion this are details that make semi pro to this semi pro camcorder.. what do you think?
