  1. hi friends i am shooting a short film on DV/BETA-SP...for which i am planning to use consumer grade flourescent tube lights ...atleast 4-6 tubes through diffussion for face lights ... now i am concerned about the flicker..which will be obvious ,though i will be shooting on1/60 shutter speed.... can u help me find a solution for that ... i will be shooting in a remote village in india ,with no power supply and i will be carrying a inverter pack for power supply ...my other option is to use normal bulbs in a soft box..but tubes consume less power ...and are cool...so i am thinking of using then over tungsten bulbs .. can anyone share their experience in this regard best wishes parasher

    underwater

hi friends i am shooting a music video next month ,a majority of which will be shot under water.here let me specify that i will b shooting from a viewing cabin under a pool and not actually undrwater,so the camera will be on dry land .but here are a few issues i had that i wanted to get clarified. 1.i am shooting on 16 mm and have the option of opting for 500 T(7218) or Fuji 500 D REALA. which would be more effective ? 2.i dont have any underwater lighting package and will be using normal HMI's to light from above....any suggestions of how to go about .... 3.i dont have a spot meter with me ,and am planning to take a SLR camera and use it for spot readings ..how effective will that be .... 4.in another secquence i am using UV lights ...( this is not underwater) ..any rules that i need to remember coz i have never shot with UV before. thanks a lot for your patience ,i hope i was clear with my queries. regards parasher

  4. hi forum i am shooting a television series on beta ...its a school based series..modelled on the PRINCESS DIARIES kind of coming of age story .. i am trying to achieve a film look ...and this is what i want my series to look ... 1. muted earth tones and slightly de saturated colours ..not ugly video pinks and stuff like that ...lot of dark backgrounds and overexposed windows ..source for day ... and slightly stylized for night .. 2.slight diffussion ( i am using an FX 2 ..or maybe a enhancer and promist when required> 3.there are a lot of steadicam movements ...in school corridors.so i want a lighting design that will be like minimalist and practical for a daily soap ...something like SEX AND THE CITY look ... 4.there is not much i can do on post because of the budget ..so i will have to achieve the look ..as much in camera as possible ..so any specific filters or white balance techniques anyone can suggest ? just want to know ...using a par light and /or a HMI ..what would be the basic difference in usage ? help me out friends... regards p

  6. thanks mr mullen i have shot dv with a pseudo 16:9 masking on the monitor ,i.e composing for 16:9 in 4x3..and then applying a mask in post production ... i have doubts about shooting16:9 because i have different people saying different things about shooting with the 16:9 mode that some dv cameras come with ...they say there are some problems in the post production .. i will definetly do some tests ...and check out the transfer facilities and their results before starting ... thanks you .. regards parasher

  9. hi friends need some urgent help on a few things i am shooting my student film on fuji stock and am planning to try out bleach bypass in some portions ..along with pushing the 500t and 400t for a certain look ..but i need some expert advice on things to look out for ..this is the first time i am handling fuji so i am a bit wary the mood of the film shifts from happy to a very gritty monochromatic look .. it deals with the life of a old man who by the end of the film end up in an old age home ...in a heightened state of dejection and depression .. and there is a night scene where i want it too go black and white ..almost ...pull out the colours ...thinking of using 400T ..pushed 1 stop and possible bleach bypassed.. friends please advise regards parasher baruah
