  1. I will be shooting a short in an asian food store at nightime in a few months and want to do my homework as best as I can. I understand that the in house fluorescents will be my main lighting source - which I am not impartial to as I am after Doyles look in "Fallen angels," with those lovely greens. I searched the threads and I gleaned the fact that Doyle push processed on the movie alot, on Fuji 250T?. I have some stock left over to shoot, would this be viable?/ Kodak 500 T and some VISION2 200T amongst others. How does tungsten film fair under fluorescents, and is there any magic tricks for flicker? Thanks for your time!
  2. Fractals, I have forgotten about them! The universe is very much like a big fractal - Fractal Universe
  3. I was thinking the other day about the comparison of resolution in computer gaming compared to the real world. Say for example you were playing a game in which you had a sniper rifle and you continued to zoom, obviously you would reach a point quite quickly were you could not increase the zoom anymore. And the thing that astounds me is the fact that our universe has so much resolution!/ completely unlike a generated image. When you compare say, the size of Earth, to our physical dimensions, we still can perceive a limitless resolution - . Even when I look down at the keyboard, from my point of view its still labyrinthine. And the size of the Earth in cosmological terms is even more insignificant than my scale compared to Earth! Reality has infinite size and yet even on the smallest scale, its resolution is completely intricate. It's crazy....I suppose it starts to break down/become strange when scientists look at subatomic particles through super microscopes....
  4. I will look him up - a contemporary artist who has used sci fi imagery is this guy / glenn brown \ his paintings are meticulous -
  5. True, I should be more respectful of Kurosawa :) - watched seven samurai at a local cinema recently, hairs stood up on the back of my neck ! the last image is beautiful, almost caravaggio like with the chiaroscuro lighting..
  6. loving the rocket ship, famous illustrator?
  7. True! :) but sometimes I find it easier looking at visuals than someone describing those visuals (style/look/technique) in words..thanks for the input
  8. I was thinking that it might be useful for people starting out, such as myself, if we could post examples of shots/looks/styles in films and discuss how they had been achieved. I am curious to see examples of different looks so I can put a name to it so to speak, such as when people talk about "milky blacks," for example. Maybe we can discuss a whole range of images that show different things like high/low contrast, skip-bleach Processing, pushing stops and pulling et cetera and post pictures to illustrate it. I know that it would help me no end....to kick off with, the following link is for a uk advert currently doing the rounds; http://www.mcsaatchi.com/work_detail.php?workid=332 Now, I actually really dont like the content of the ad, but I have seen a few adverts/short films that has this look of really orange skin tones that I like, and in this case, vibrant greens and deep browns. It seems to be popular this look as i have seen it various times. Is it mainly achieved in post? Or is it a particular stock, or a combination - ?
  9. I think i will have to move there when that happens! thanks
  10. Thanks Adam, a valuable site,
  11. Ok, so I have a KERN SWITAR H16 RX 10 mm and a KERN YVAR 75mm 1:2,8 lens Now I think I understand that article talking about the reasons for the RX lenses. I dont think I will have trouble with these two lenses. Is the shutter angle of the rx 5 the same as the EBM ie 180 degrees I think? Thanks
  12. Hi thanks for that Stephen, I have been emailing the Koday reps in India to see whether I could get some 400ft rolls and get a lab to break them up. Adlabs are really helpful. Do you think there would be film stockists in Mumbai where you could literally walk in and buy over the counter so to speak? Thanks!
  13. I am in a too fragile state to read this at the moment! I will have to glean it's facts later, thanks - never straight forward! R
  14. Do you think this footage was manipulated after on computer? It's very nice, considering that it was on a humble bolex?
  15. Hi does anyone know of a place i can buy 16mm in India? I am going with a bolex with me, so it would have to be 100ft daylight spools. I am considering taking the film myself but the whole xray thing is putting me off abit. If anyone knows of a vendor I would really appreciate it - thanks!

Does anyone know of an online manual? Thanks
  17. "To display or behave in an ostentatious or conspicuous way." - if that makes any sense! :)
  18. Has anyone had experience/heard opinions about adlabs in Mumbai, India? They seem quite reputable,
  19. I wasnt referring to their telecine. The processing there, however, is fairly cheap and its a nice enterprise that they have going, so I would recommend to anyone that want to use film in the UK and are on a small budget.
