  1. Books are great, and some introductory DVDs are great for getting started, and nothing beats being on set, but still... any recommendations for something that assumes we know the basics and starts right after? And something that's less for interviews/weddings but more for Film? thanks you very much.
  2. there any place where I can get the minimum union scale rate for all production crews for a feature ($500,000-935,000)? I already checked Ny411, Mayor's office, DGA, Local 52, Local 600, producer's union etc, etc. The local refused to share information to non members. This is for a class project. i would really appreciate the help. Thanks. p.s: are the rates different in NYc than it's in L.A? or is it the budget that decides?

  4. Hi, I am a student and for my class I have to make a sample budget for a $500,000-935,000 feature to be shot on NYC. Is there any way I can get a complete listing for the minimum UNION/ Standard wage rates for all the production staff? I have already looked up/ contacted NY411, Mayor's office for film, Local 52 , Local 600, Producer's union, Payroll services (EP and Media Services) but they were generally unable to help me out. I did track down a list, but it was only for commericals, and I'm looking specifically for feature. I would really appreciate the help. thanks.
  5. I am thinking about a project where i might need to use a lot of clips from local or national News. I don't care about their quality and therefore was thinking about recording right off my TV. i will submit those projects to a pretty well-known video site. will i be in trouble?? is there any alternate way? what's the 'real way'(ex:if comedy central uses CNN footage, what do they do??) if this isn't the appropriate place for this question,i apologize.
  6. I was thinking about getting a camera and a light kit and shoot some stuff at home, regularly. But I don't know anything about the power requirements/restrictions/limitations of domestic power. Say if i want to put up 2 arri650w and 1 arri350w ,will i start a fire?? i guess my real question is where can i find information (book/site) about the elctrical knowledge tha need for lighting. if my question was vague, let me know so i can rephrase it. thanx!!
