  1. I have been testing a new lens adapter that allows me to use a Mamiya 645 lens on a B4 mount. It works great with lenses up to 200mm but the image is soft with my 300mm & 500mm. Both seem to work fine on a Mamiya stills camera. I am wondering if anyone has an idea of what might be going on? It is not a focus issue so much as a general softness across the whole picture. Thanks

  2. I just bought a lens adapter that should enable me to use Mamiya 645 stills lenses on a B4 mount. I shoot wildlife films and often need long telephotos, so this would be very useful. I have tried a 100mm,200mm,300mm & 500mm lens each with a progressively worse problem. None will allow me to reach a far infinity focus (a distance of approximatlry 1/2 mile or more). I am guessing the mount is just a fraction too deep. I am using a Panasonic HDX900 camera. Does anyone have any suggestions othetr than returning the adapter? Thanks

  3. Thanks Phil,

I am a cameraman and don't do any editing, so was hoping that I could find a way other than FCP to log footage to send off to a library I work with. It would be good if there was a cheap alternative to just go firewire out of the camera and into the computer, sort and then output files. Looks like FCP is it. I have an old copy (4.5) but I don't think it has the correct codecs to talk with the HDX900.

  4. I shoot with an HDX900 and need to find the most economic way to capture footage and allow me to select clips to pass onto a library. I need to send them uncompressed QT movies on a drive, starting out the process with DVCPRO HD tapes. Is my only way to get FCP or is there a more economical way?

    Thanks

  5. I use some prime lenses with my HDX900 and this means I can not use the remote on/off & zoom control that plugs into a zoom lens. I am wondering of it is possible make a cable that would plug into the camera where the zoom normally connects and trigger the camera via a switch that I would place on the tripod handle. I just need to trigger the camera to record. Thanks

  6. Thanks, I just bought a Mamiya / B4 adapter so would like to have just one lens kit for both camera systems. I shoot wildlife material so most interested in macro and telephoto lenses.

  7. I have a Panasonic HDX900 and want to start recording to solid state in addition to tape. I am wondering which recorder would be the best option? Should I mount a Panasonic AG-HPG10 (P2) recorder on the camera or the Convergent Design XDR or perhaps the nanoflash? Also wondering if the Convergent Design products give me any increase in quality over the tape?

The reason I want to do this is that I shoot for a stock footage library that wants me to deliver in a file based workflow not on tape. Meanwhile I still have clients wanting a tape after a shoot, so have to find a way to provide both.

I would also like to avoid spending too much on a post system to duplicate material as I spend most of my time out shooting, not in a edit room. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thanks

I am looking for a used tripod/head combo or will look at seperates. Would like to stick to the known names, O'connor, Miller, Sachtler, Cartoni, Vinten, etc. Does your company have some an older one that no one uses? Have a backup you don't use anymore? Maybe you should upgrade and help out the poor! ;)

As expected, I can not afford anything too new. Ideally it would be rated around 30 to 50lbs. I almost got an O'connor 50 head that Visual Products has for sale that's in my price range but found out they are limited to 45 degree tilts which seems a little restrictive to me but if you have an opinion on that I'd like to hear it.

For now I'm still looking for something a little more modern. Send me an IM please.

  9. I am swapping from film to HD camera and still have some 16mm film stock going spare. Was to be used on a super 16 project.

    Kodak Vision 2 50D x 7 rolls 400'- $200 plus shipping

Bought for a project about 12 months ago and kept refridgerated. The film has been carefully stored but is bought with no guarantee.
