  1. I don't mean to offend but are you getting payed for this?
  2. Karl, don't you think that just applies to in life general? Nothing is perfect and there is always a risk that whatever you are doing and whichever way you're doing it, that it can at any moment, go wrong. What is interesting, is that there are similar issues in digital that can also occur in film. But, and it's a big but, there are people who use film that can say that they've never had lab related issues. The same can't be said for the dark side..... ;)
  3. I'm with David and John on this. Everytime I hear of or read that someone has hit a wall in a digital shoot with their footage, the thought of "Maybe if you'd shot it on film..." always springs to the forefront of my mind..... Elle - sorry for quick off topic comment. I feel for you and I really hope that you can get your images back!!
  4. Excuse me whilst I recover from my violent projectile regurgitation!! Are you serious??
  5. I keep getting loads of emails from students that have graduated from that school, asking for work.
  6. Hi Guys, Do you think that an agent outside of UK (not US) would work for someone based in the UK? Cheers S P.S to get work in UK as well as outside.
  7. I only caught the 2nd one, shot by Igor....and his surname escapes me right now....on 35! Looked really nice!! Its a shame that C4's version of iplayer doesn't work....
  8. Try Direct Lighting. They're based near waterloo
  9. Like Adrian I've never, ever, received payment from a deferred job. I don't know what that says about he films I've worked on........ However, there are always those unexpected stories of indies that have made loads of money.....one that springs to mind here in the UK is "London to Brighton". If I'd worked on that film and hadn't signed a deferred agreement I would've been really pissed....
  10. As you are shooting in golden hour then your control will be a bit easier. With post facilities being so good I hardly use any filters on most shoots(excluding nd's).....unless the story commands a strong filtered look, like you, and when I need to, I tend to just use very subtle amounts. I really appreciate in the old films the soft look on the female lead but generally these days I just don't think it sits as well to be so heavy. However as you are shooting low end digital I would advise a classic soft to just take away the sharp edges and give it a more natural feel. As for which one it is entirely to taste and only testing can tell. I've only shot reversal on S8 once and I can't remember what stock it was. Sorry but maybe someone else here can help on that?!
  11. Hi Anthony, I'm not a fan of the Z1....if you are hiring this camera you'll probably find that the DSR450 is affordable. If so, I would recommend you use that camera, as it is more manageable in the menus and the glass is, not only removable but also better quality. However if you can't, then I would be very careful of the what you have in frame. As you'll want to control as much as possible. By saying that you are shooting at sunrise and dusk, does that mean that you are shooting in the 'golden hour'? If so, this will help as the light at that time is even and less intense. Thus helping you to bring your subjects up to a aperture level which is close to your surroundings without needing lots of lights! Alternatively just shoot it with your S8, it will look great!
  12. Hey Eric, The stills are not coming through....can you please post them again? Cheers S
  13. Looks nice Nate. Would be great to see some moving images...
  14. As an up-and-coming dp there are so many benefits to working at a place like Pana. Apart from technical experience and contacts, you also stand in a great position to try and wrangle some equipment to go out there in your free time and shoot some stuff for your reel. Killing 2 birds with one stone me thinks
  15. This is a hypothetical question that has been spurred by interest and, please correct me if I'm wrong, a question that I don't recollect ever been put across during the many battles of film vs digital... If you were asked to shoot a film that had a storyline which has as much call for it to be shot on digital as it would on film, which format would you choose? This is of course pending on production giving you carte blanche...
  16. exactly!! I always feel that if something needs this kind of manipulation is because the originator feels insecure about it. In the great words of Flava Flave.......Don't believe the hype!
  17. My friend and I were also nosing around the flap panels. The box set is £1,200....which I though was not bad. And you can drill holes into them! I was disappointed that the ikonoskop wasn't there. Awful food.....
  18. These are the ones that spring to mind immediately.... Citizen Kane The man that wasn't there Casablanca The original "Fugitive" tv series (I know its not a movie but I grew up with it and loved it so much that its worth encapsulating it to this list) Birds Rumble Fish
  19. Hey Gilbert, I really liked the feel of your film. The movement, framing and pace is very nice. The only thing that I can't refer to. is the quality of detail in image as it's on you tube and so it's very compressed! Bon travail!
  20. That moment in waiting is very addictive!! Enjoy it, as once you've seen the footage it will be gone....until the next time you shoot again! Also, a good assistant is worth his/her weight in gold! It's a false economy to cut that corner.
