  1. I'm new, very new to both my Canon XL-2 and Final Cut Pro 6. I am trying to transfer video from my Canon into Final Cut Pro. My Video/XL2 was recorded using 12bit 1/2, 3/4 audio (32Khz) mode so I could record to all 4 channels. 1/2 are recording my stereo front mic, 3/4 are mono wireless microphones. I'm also recording in 16:9 aspect ratio and 60i frame rate. I tried to find a matching setting in Final Cut Pro but can't. there is only 8, 16, and 24 bit audio modes. Although there is a 32Khz setting, there is no 12 bit setting for audio. I'm trying to use the DV / Firewire cable to Log and Capture my video, but all I get is the color bars with "preview disabled" displayed and when I click capture it says there is no video, when I can clearly see it playing in the camera. I know it must be possible to get this video and all 4 audio tracks across firewire. Is it? Or do I need some sort of deck attached to my Mac to get this captured properly? Any suggestions, or suggested audio / video settings to match my setup would be great!! thanks Brian pumphouseoutdoors.com
  2. The problem was in the menu setup for audio. I had it on 12 bit, but didn't have the 1/2, 3/4 selection for 12 bit. as soon as I got that right, the rear's work like a charm. dog fighting vs. hunting? Not sure Vick was feeding his family w/ the dogs...but that comparison is a discussion for a completely different forum. thanks for all the comments... Brian
  3. all, I got hte audio to work, not sure how, but I did. and I wrote down teh settings! LOL as for the battery, I have two of the long life batteries and the charger (CH-910 I think), that can be attached and run w/ both batteries for about 10 hours total run time...so yeah, I think that might be the plan. I just didn't think that was good for the camera to just stay on running like that... Got a 445am appt in the trees tomorrow morning, we'll see how the setup works. thanks again!
  4. Thanks for the quick response. Although a releif to know its not broken, a slight disappointment...I hope I don't scare any deer away.
  5. Forgive me if there are already responses to these questions but I ran a search and didn't fine what I was looking for so here they are. I just purchased an XL2 with several additional goodies. I'm using it to record hunting trips all over the country and have hit a couple setup snags. 1. XL2 LENS: When I start up the camera, my 20x Canon florite lens that comes w/ the camera makes 2 or 3 relatively loud clicking noises as it settles itself. Now the lens appears to be working just fine, but that initial clicking concerns me for 2 reasons. First, is it supposed to do that? Second, sort of hard to film a Monster Whitetail 10 yards away from you when you start your camera and it clicks 3 times... 2. AUDIO SETUP: I purchased an Azden wireless receiver and two wireless transmitters for my hunters to wear. My goal was to use the Front Mic to capture ambient noise and my wireless mics via the rear XLR jacks to capture audio from my hunters. No matter what configuration I use it just doesn't work. I would like to get ambient on CH 1/2 from the front Mic and individual audio from hunters on 3/4. I set up AUDIO 1 to Front Mic and AUDIO 2 to Rear and no luck. Do I have to use an MA-300 and a different mic to acheive 4 separate audio channels? I've tried 12 and 16 bit, manual settings / auto...HELP!!! I can get the wireless mics to work fine or the front mic, but not both simultaniously. I thought that the camera could record 4 separate audio tracks...am I missing something? any guidance anyone can provide would be great. I"m on a hunting trip as we speak and this info would be great!! Brian Wensel pumphouseoutdoors.com
