  1. I'm looking to purchase the Panasonic GH-1, the only drawback is that it does not have a headphone jack or very much audio control (though you can attach an external mic). I'm considering purchasing it along with a flash recorder/external mics. The camera shoots at 24p, should I have trouble syncing my audio? It's just like syncing film dailies, right? There shouldn't be any drop-offs in the 24p signal (like when shooting with older film cameras), right? Now, for the basic film student audio question, does it matter if your camera is running at 24 fps or 30 fps when recording on a flash recorder?
  2. Hey, I shot crystal sync on the Arri SR-2 and slated. Do I just sync the old fashioned clapboard match way? I tried converting my footage to 24 FPS in cinematools (I shot 24fps but had it telecined) and now it seems not to sync with the audio at all. Any suggestions? Maybe i put in the wrong presets.
  3. I shot a 16mm short and had it transferred to mini DV. The audio was recorded on a Flash recorder. How will I go about syncing? Do I convert the video to 24fps in Cinema Tools first? And then what's the easiest way to sync? Thanks
  4. Hey all, I shot on 16mm and had it transfered to DV. This is a dumb question but in order to get the original frame rate and sync everything up, would i import to FCP at 24fps? Thanks! Nick
  5. Hey guys, I was wondering, i'm helping a friend light an exterior night scene for a project he's shooting. If i used artificial lights to light to a 2.8 or a 4.0, would this yield a good image? It did for 16mm. How about black and white super 8?
  6. Hey, I'm helping a friend light some super 8 project, a medium i've not worked with in a while. We have a handful of Lowell lights. It's a really small project for one of his film classes. What's the best F-Stop to keep for the shots? The film stocks ASA is 80. I know when I shot 16mm on the SR-2, it we yielded really fantastic results with the iris opened all the way (1.7 I believe). Can the same be said for Black and White Super 8? And it being night, I probably shouldn't light over a 4 or 5.6. Any help would be appreciated.
  7. Hey guys? I just shot a 16mm short and had the video transfered to mini-DV. What is the best program to sync the audio in?
  8. Dumb question again... How do I go about measuring with a zoom lens if i'm zoomed in? Like I said, really dumb question, I'm just slightly self-concious when using zoom lenses.
  9. what gives the best colors and sharpest images? Nick
  10. Next week. Does anyone have any pointers on this? The one thing I'm nervous about is using a zoom lens. I'm accustomed to using prime lenses the few times I've shot on 16mm. I've shot on zoom lenses on Super 8 and DV obviously, but it should all work the same way, right? No need for measurements with a tape measure?
  11. how much typically does an ND filter eat? Was it 1/3rd a stop?
  12. Last question guys... Would you all recommend shooting daylight film for exteriors, or should I shoot 200T with a filter?
  13. Does anyone have any examples of this? For indoor shooting, Am I better off shooting 200T or shooting 500T rated at 320T? Basically, all I'd have to do is set my meter accordingly, right?
  14. Can anyone tell me the advantage of doing this? Best, Nick Castronuoa
