  1. Plus, as far as a story-telling device, they were really needed. I had no idea how they got from the plane to the car - I really needed the flashback to tell me that they used their feet to get there!
  2. I don't know if "comfortable" would be the word to use for handheld... it's a beast, but it's a great camera!
  3. If you're looking for a place to buy bounce board, try a hobby shop. You can buy large white foamcore (for mounting artwork on). They also usually have differnent colors (like gold) if you want to bounce something warmer.
  4. HMIs actually have very strange color warping when you play with a shutter speed that catches the lights at a different frequency. By standard settings on the Varicam, this usually happens with 1/250 and up.
  5. I just saw the film "Nine Lives" in the theater -- which was great, by the way -- and I'm sure it was shot on Super 16mm. I don't know what stock for sure, but I would guess 7218.
  6. I also just watched this documentary, and it is fascinating to see things build up and then come crashing down. "The Boondock Saints" has been around for a while and has gained a HUGE cult following on DVD. If you haven't seen it, you should watch it, especially after having seen "Overnight."
  7. Gorgeous reel! I see a lot of demo reels that annoy me when they cut back to the same shots, but cutting back to the girl in bed and then showing her tied up with duct tape worked incredibly well. That image is now lodged in my memory. Great work!
  8. The DR Group and Film Emporium are great resources for short ends!
  9. You have to plug it into a ballast, but the ballast will plug into a wall outlet and work just fine.
  10. A lot of PA jobs seem to average $100 a day.
  11. Have you seen the movie, or are you just going off of what you've read in the press? I haven't seen the original cut of Brown Bunny, but the one that was released on DVD is definitely worth watching. It is by no means a "hard core sex scene" as some reviewers have stated. What is actually taking place is anything but erotic. The prestige of the festival is nothing for gauging what they will show. I've seen some of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life at Sundance. Best of luck on entering your feature. The only way for people to see your movie is to get it out there, and to as many hands as you can! What's it about? As a side note, here's what Ebert who famously called The Brown Bunny the worst movie in the history of Cannes has to say about it now: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.d.../409020301/1023
  12. If I'm not mistaken, 800T has been discontinued for a while now, so definitely do a test to make sure the stock is still good. I've shot with 800T before and it's very grainy. I shot a horror piece with it one time when we were trying to replicate old dirty film look and pushed it a stop, great low-light stuff, but super grainy - worked really well for the project though.
  13. Looks good. I especially like the shot of the bulb smashing.
  14. The last shot of Life Aquatic was a very bad digital slow-mo, if I remember right. I really didn't like the movie as a whole... with the one exception of the light meter readings always being about 5.6 no matter what the lighting condition, which probably goes to show what a nerd I am.

This does look like a constant speed motor. You need a special cable to plug into the two prongs pictured on the side.
