  2. Nick No, I've never seen PVC circular track before, and in all honesty don't want to be using any PVC track..ever! But that's just me. Good Luck with the build Stay Classy...and welcome to the forum Reil
  3. Tyler Send me an email and I'll send you some pics of a bambola(4X8) rig we did on a truck being towed at speeds of 25+kph (I'm in Canada) reilmunro@gmail.com 1love
  4. Bonjour The spring mount being an isolation head...or maybe its one of those funky bungee frames that the camera gets mounted on in the middle (I've never used them) Merci
  5. JD If your that anal in believing that a grip should be bringing hacksaws to their show calls then I'm sure glad as (obscenity removed by admin) I won't be working with you. As a grip I bring what's in/on my pouch/belt: Quick-piq Needle nose pliers Olfa knife Scorpion flash-light 6" crescent wrench (8" spare in the bag) ratchet for key clamps Speed wrench (if rigging) Hex keys Carabiner 2" Paper tape Measuring tape Leathermen Holy crap, sounds like alot for one belt, but saves me the time, that's maybe why I work so much as a Grip/Lead Grip/Dolly Grip on IA sanctioned shows here in Canada. Don't flatter yourself with your knowledge of saw blades, if I ever have a doubt about using the Key's tools for a task, I ask. (You can use that line, my compliments) JD...maybe you've worked in the fiction world for so long that you've forgotten what reality is, you seem to pass judgment pretty quick...and if that's the case, (obscenity removed by admin) off. Stay classy
  6. Victor That's a sweet looking rig...hope you don't mind me giving it a go sometime in these parts Cheers
  7. 1 Measuring Tape 1 Sharpie (fine point) 1 Hacksaw 1 Apple-box 1 Foot Measure out your desired length on speed-rail, mark with sharpie, lay your pipe on an apple-box (I prefer using the #2 side of the apple-box personally)applying down force or pressure on said speed-rail with foot, cut along desired length marked from your fine point sharpie, with a standard hacksaw - as an added bonus, asking one of your mates to hold the end will give him/her a good reason to get a cigarette in while you saw away. In 30 seconds you'll be all set to run that cut piece in...ok maybe 90 seconds, give your mate a chance to enjoy that cig Shoot Film and not Heroin
  8. Robert D I like your over under idea with the soft 90s...I do the same when in doubt (When there is a doubt, there is no doubt) Also your suggestion for box trust is rather cool, but my take on that would be to maybe instead get 3 25' speed rails(is you grip truck long enough to hold that length) along with 3 triangle truss brackets, placed equaled apart...it also saves some room when transporting, and as smartly suggested by Warwick, the ckankups are the way to go. I've never seen piped joined while in use on a truss bracket personally...is that possible ? Cheers
  9. Daniel If your plywood is already fastened to the floor, then mounting the bazooka with 3 dock rings and ratchets (hookless) shouldn't be a problem...hell, 3 sand bags on each leg would even do the trick, depending also on the rate of speed of travel of course. Actually... the simplest way is a good way...bag the crap out of it, and it will allow you to focus on your other tasks. Just another way and my 2 cents Stay classy
  10. Would you have the coin for a Doggicam system ? We've used them here on two occasions and their not hard to set up and also hide with wardrobe http://www.doggicam.com/master.html As I was looking it over, there wouldn't be all much needed to make a DIY system with the proper tools of course...but I'm not sure if that's the look your going for as far as the subject being in the frame. Good Luck...if you do a home-made job I would love to see it. Stay Classy
  11. I've had keys hold a 24X36 in the place they wanted it to live and had to rig the C-stand to it, while the flag is being held...it hasn't happened all that often, but it has with some Keys...guess its not a common practice.
  12. Bonjour fellow colleagues Very insightful techniques to using the C-stand...I thank you all for the refresher(s). By the way, I'm new to this board and a on-set grip here in Canada (I work in many of a different Province) and have worked as a lead and dolly grip and had the fortunate opportunity to Key a couple of non-sanctioned shoots. And of course I would and am, looking forward to Keying more shows in the future...I thank you all for your tremendous knowledge which I've been reading for the past while. How do you feel about those shims that are in the pucks heads ? someone once told me that if there's cork, then theres more of a chance of slippage then with the aluminum ones...true/false ? And do any others use the practice when shaping the set of holding the cutter in its place while the on set grip jigs the stand accordingly, in relation to where the flag is positioned ? (On sand-bagging - we have the purse style ones here and found that if laid across the back two legs with the handle in the direction of the floor makes it easier to pick up when kicked off by the foot, since it will land with handle up....I can't believe I typed that) Merci "Cheers to us...and people like us"
