  1. Ev, Per the rules of this forum, please go to My Controls and change your screen name to your first and last name. The Members thank you in advance.
  2. In my opinion, an Incident reading would be far more useful as a Reflected reading is only accurate off the actual object or person's skin tone which varies from item to item and person to person. I always check Reflected readings but they (rarely) decide the stop or are (rarely) used to light to a given stop.... my Incident readings do that. (as Jorge points out)
  3. The problem is Stand-Ins don't just stand... they move.
  4. \ ... they may very well (unknowingly) lead us into a slaughter. That is why each of us has to cover our own asses. We are responsible for ourselves and the sooner we start acting like real business people (in this business) the better... as you surely know JD. You deal with this stuff all the time but it usually goes in your favor (as it does mine) because of how we position ourselves from the get go.
  5. It seems I am the only one who has actually watched 'Unwitnessed'.. therefore I am the only one who knows what the heck he is talking about  :P ...besides Andrzej of course!
  6. Nothing. Nothing at all. It did not read like that in your post. It seemed like you were indeed putting it on the DP. Now I see you are not :) . btw.. It shouldn't matter at all if the DP worked for them before or not. we all make or deals with production and just because it works well once does not mean it will work well the second or sixth time...
  7. I never thought your were stupid. Esoteric yes. Stupid no. :) Has anyone else watched Unwitnessed? The See This Thread above will lead you to it. Taking a psychedelic might help. Of course with the explanation it takes a bit of the edge off compared to a raw unprepped viewing such as what I experienced. I could not figure out what the hell he was doing.
  8. I have to disagree with you here JD. Annie got into this mess because Annie took the job. Period. She is a big girl. She made her own decision. The DP can refer work to her but he is (not) her employer. The production Company is. And she is not the DP's employee... she is an Ind. Contractor. Sure DPs will fend for their Crews... I do. I tell production (say on a commercial) that the Camera, Elec and Grips (I use) need to be paid at wrap... if they say ok then I leave it between the crew and the production company. It is now between them. Anyone who has ever worked for me will vouch for my willingness to stick up for the crew... and get nasty if need be. However, I am in no way responsible for their checks. They are. ...all that said glad you got some $$$ Annie!
  9. You can do both. You would be amazed at all you can do... at once. Multi-task. Now that's a (fine art) worth learning!
  10. Exactly.. just because you can throw paint at a canvas does make you an artist.
  11. (Personally Speaking) I do consider myself an artist... after all I paint with Light and Emulsion is my canvas. But for me, there is a line where 'art' ends and nonsense begins and yes I understand this is a subjective line for each individual. For me, just because you can throw paint at a canvas does not mean you are an artist. Furthermore, if it were not for Picasso's early realism paintings (demonstrating he could actually draw and paint a portrait without placing both eyes on the same side of the face) I could not respect his 'fine art' as I do.
  12. Andrzej, What I like about you is that you are a strong willed person and no doubt that will be crucial for you in your 'fine art' career! Hey, just because some of us don't get it doesn't mean you should stop. Keep doing what you believe in. Negative responses are to be expected especially in your chosen field. Don't let them stop you. But I still don't get what the hell you are doing!
  13. I agree... and I watched his 'fine art' and tho I was courteous (some would say sympathetic)... I still don't get what the hell he is doing! See This Thread
  14. David Lynch is a kind, thoughtful man. I have a letter from him thanking me for my participation in his Film framed and hanging in my office. btw.. Fred Elmes was the DP.
  15. I worked on a short film with David Lynch (The Frenchman and the Cowboy) and it was nothing like what you produced. I guess I just don't get it... but hey, best of luck... maybe I should have eaten some 'shrooms' first  Hope you end up the best 'fine artist' of this century. Good Luck!
  16. Andrzej, I just watched "Unwitnessed" ... what the hell are you doing?
  17. 6ft Tracing Paper works fantastic and is cheap and available.... if (soft) light is what you want of course.
  18. That's right... and with today's epa restrictions, now even the chrome (plated finish) peels off. :(
  19. Lorenzo, You will get good results without the filter. In this realm 400 degrees kelvin is not a lot. I would shoot without the filter and do any warming or cooling in the Transfer. Be sure to shoot a Framing Chart and a Color Chart/ Gray Scale at the head. The book Film Lighting will be a tremendous help to you. It is the best 6-8 hours of prep you could do to deliver better images ;)
  20. Sat Jan 23rd is King Baby opening up for Eric Sardinas.. that should be wild. Slash played there a couple nights ago and mentions it on facebook. I'll e you a track from King Baby. If any one else from Cinematography.com is in LA just let me know. You can thank Tim Tyler as without this forum few of us would know each other :)
  21. Hey Tom, my offer still stands to put you and your guests on the Guest List a hot night at my bro's club Cozys ...you too Mr. Sprung :)
  22. I operated that camera on Silk Stalkings (USA Network) back in the 90's and it was R16. A lot of producers like(d) that camera because (with that Mag design) it (kinda) looks like it's 35mm...
  23. Yes. Now being (professional) I purchased 12x12 and 6x6 Green Screens but if I did not have them I would not hesitate to just pick a flat green from the paint store. Taking some paint chips (samples) to your closest rental house will give you your answer as to which would closest (match). I know a guy who covered a wall with green construction paper... worked great.
