  1. MAYBE the guy has been doing commercials and paid work for years and the software and equipment has already paid for it's self many times over, in WHICH case, it is ALSO free, that could leave production costs at......wait for it.........$300 DOLLARS!!!!!

When you are busting your butt working to pay for your equipment... you pay it off... then use it on a freebie... that does (not) make it free... he paid with years of work and hustle to pay that stuff off (if that is the way it happened). Believe me I know.. I have a lot of equipment and for the most part it is all paid off but I do not look at the fact that I can use it tomorrow for 'free' as actually 'free'... I paid it off with blood, sweat and a ton of marketing... and that (wasn't) free. This kinda reminds me of the shell game going on with, dare I say it.... here it comes... healthcare. Saying this was done for $300 is called cooking the books.

    Lesson #1... ain't nothing free!

  2. Dude, you git some friends to do this s^it for free, it is TOTALLY possible to get it done for $300 bucks, 'course that assumes you own all the equipment and software to do the job and the talent to pull it off. B)

Exactly!... and all that cost more than $300 ;)

  3. Hi David,

    Thanks for a reply.

What do I need to transfer HDcam source to hard drive? Aja loHD will help?

    Thanks.

You''ll need an HDcam Deck to start.. I have a post house do mine. Give them the Tape and a Firewire Drive (as Phil suggested) and let them do it. Call around for pricing. Beg.

    Good Luck!

  4. Per the rules of this forum, please go to My Controls and change your screen name to your first and last name

My suggestion is to send the HDCam out and have it transferred to an ext Hard Drive. I receive all my HDCam SR footage on a Drive.

  5. I (personally) would rather shoot 7217 200t and push one stop. When shooting S16 (which I do predominately), I don't go faster than 200t. Of course I can imagine a scenario where 500t would be mandatory but only if I had to push that as well (as Oliveir did here).

  6. To run three at once you really have to have the Continuos Trim Method down i.e. jamming a Positive Rod in there the perfect depth without shutting it down and having to re-strike. That's fun! Of course when the Negative Rod needs to be replaced you have to shut them down and open the oven... Ouch, that's Hot!

  7. Hey David, I just saw your demo reel on you website, it is fazinating!

You would not be interested in taking me as your apprentice? :)

    cheers

    Olivier

    Olivier,

I am honored you would ask. That was very kind. Unfortunately, there is not enough work to warrant it and frankly, I am not sure you need it. At the same time, we never know what tomorrow may bring and I hope to be shooting (with) you someday soon. I pm'd my email address so we can stay in touch should you come to the States.

    All the best!

  8. Why are Carbon Arcs out of fashion? They are on, without stabilizing time. They have such a nice light-quality. I could imagine that they can be computerised so that a light-operator would not be needed.

I used to be an Arc Angel... and Arcs will always need an operator not a computer. They are out of style because they belch smoke, are VERY heavy and take a lot of attention to use them correctly. They can still be found on Backlots as they are very durable and weather proof. I remember my first time on the Disney Lot and the Gaffer told me to "go get an Arc"... I asked "where"?.. he said "just walk around, you'll find one". I did. Two blocks away! I dragged it to the Set. He said "fire it up". I asked "where do I get power... where's the generator?".. he said "at each street corner there are DC tie ins". There were! When we were done with the shot ( for Lethal Weapon 3) we just left the Arc where it was (after coiling the cable of course).

Here's a snap from way back when.. over 23 years ago! Running an Arc outside the door of a Stage shining into the Set. It was an 8 day Steve Miller Music Video shoot. Amir Mokri was the DP, Bob Gantz was the Gaffer, Tom Voelpel was the Best Boy , I was running two Arcs. We were shooting 35mm B&W while he was recording an album/ it was pre cd.. I don't know (what) you would call it.. album I guess. Sheeesh check out the beard. No wonder I wasn't getting any dates at that time

  9. I like your work because it does not (look) 'lit'... it is very natural (looking).

Ironically, the lighting that looked the most (lit) and kinda took me out was the day exteriors at the end.. but all the Night work.. Beautiful! Love the bluish Fill panned across while he is driving. Nice touch!

  10. Oh, I did not mean it like that.. post all you have.. no problem! ;)

I did not mean give someone else a chance to post footage.. any one can any time. I was just joking inferring "let someone else (Shoot) something'!

    I was just jesting!

Welcome to the boards.. nice work!

What are you shooting tomorrow?
